I'm impressed, and for sure I will be banned, because I spammed in Rookie help.

But at this very dangerous place there is NOBODY?

People just coming in, and will be overwelmed by scammers? And for sure I will get banned, because I named him:

Monchz

I always cited him, and added "xxx" or "xxxx" or "xxxx".

You'll find him near of it.

Just Do NOT ban him, follow the IPs, what other IPs has other accounts, and THEN ban THOSE accounts.

Edit: just do: "grep Monchz logfile.log" you'll be impressed ...

Having players scam others in Rookie Help channel is definitely not good at all, especially if ISD members are letting it happen. Doubt you'll get banned but you should report it to Customer Support asap.

There are 3 ways to contact Customer Support:

1 - File a support ticket in-game by pressing F12 (or pressing the "Help" button in the NeoCom) and select "Create New Support Ticket"

2 - Write a support ticket in the web-browser by selecting "Create New Support Ticket" in the EVE-SUPPORT section of www.eveonline.com.

3 - Send an E-mail directly to support@eveonline.com

Include all pertinent information related to the issue, such as username / character name, location, date / time, etc. Also include a brief but detailed description of the issue and if you know how it occurred along with if you've encountered the issue before.

Several of us have reported him, hours ago, but there's been no response.

There isn't usually an ISD presence in the channel. Once or twice a day an ISD will come in. Occasionally one will stay for 40 minutes and answer questions, but most of the time it's only ten minutes or they just sit quietly and respond only to people asking where other language channels are by telling them to speak English.

It'll probably take a while due to a number of reasons - investigation, Ticket back-load, chain of command, etc.

Since you've already done Option 1 (filed a 'Support Ticket' in-game), wait a few days and if no reply, submit another 'Support Ticket' through one of the other 2 Options.

File it under Harassment, that generally gets replies pretty quickly. It's kinda fitting anyway.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.

An ISD appeared, the scammer/spammer evaporated, the ISD left, he came back. He wasn't banned or even muted.

I might be wrong here so someone from ISD would have to confirm.

ISD members do not have the right or ability to ban a player. They can give warnings along the lines off "this behavior is not allowed in this channel" and point CCP towards the player in question, but thats all they can do.

As others have mentioned, file a petition about it, but i would advice that you do it in the proper sections. I cant remember if something like this should go under harassment (i doubt it tho), and while it can be tempting to file something under high priority sections to get a quicker response it wont do much beyond clogging up the petition system and annoy the people who have to sort trough the petitions.
In worst case your petition will just get closed and you have to re-file it under the correct section, thus prolonging the wait.

If you petition the player, and it keeps happening after you have received a response to your petition, file a new petition. Remember to include logs and similar. Chances are that the player got a warning, and decides to just keep pushing their luck. If the player in question keeps doing it CCP will (im guessing) eventually punish him more strictly.

One issue you will no doubt face is that while (assuming you have reported the facts correctly) this is a legitimate complaint of inappropriate scam spamming, CCP get a *lot* of petitions sent demanding a stop to perfectly EULA compliant scam advertising.

This wastes their time. Some of those reports come from people who don't realise the differences between EVE and other games, but others come from people that should know better, such as highsec trade hub residents telling people to petition margin scammers (that clearly are not bots) as "ISK spammers".

My suggestion: Petition it, draw additional attention to it via threads like these, and also post a quick "Hey rookies, XXX's ad is a scam, don't fall for it. Scamming is all well and good in EVE, just not in rookie chat" that you can copy/paste every time it gets posted.

What the person in question is doing gives legitimate scammers a bad name.

Hover mouse pointer over their name in chat.
Right click + block

Even if ISD could ban them, they would just be back 5min later with a new account and different IP.

I have to go to bed ;-)

Monchz will be happy, but exactly THIS is the reason why 90% of the new player will leave.

EVE could have 370,000 player instead of 37,000 player at once, if Newbies would not so harsh thrown away.

I'm also a new player, and already had to make a 2nd Account to get rid of the 15 million bounty. I like the game mechanic, but I hate the people who cannot follow rules.

I hate so myself, since I was spamming in Rookie Help.

Let me guess the outcome: I will get a ban. Monchz too, but since he was a throw-away-account it has no consequences for him.

EVE could be a real competitor to SWG (dead), WoW (soon dead) or STO (ftp), if just CCP would like to.

EVE has 500k active accounts (almost twice SWG had at peak), I'm not sure what the problem is. No one cares about WoW here, just saying. EVE is one of the few mmo's that have constantly increased accounts since it launched. It's the #1 hardcore mmo, still retaining old school roots. All those you mentioned offer nothing for us, including SWG after the NGE which many came to EVE after that (including myself) - which is in part why it's dead, a virtual ghost town the day after NGE. As for STO, it had 100k accounts peak from launch, then dropped like a rock to 50k and only rebound after announcing f2p, doesn't sound like a success story...

You just right-click + block, same with any game. They all have scammers or gold sellers, even worse in f2p's that I've seen.

Blocking the character won't help the issue.

Reporting the character will help the issue.

Scamming new players in Rookie Help Chat is unacceptable. That's something CCP definitely needs to look at, especially since it could easily cause new players to quit before they even actually get into the game.

Just like Jita, you block them. Though Jita that is a whole other can of worms since they learned the way of the doubler (total scam) and so pretty much completely flood the channel into uselessness now. Not saying don't report them on the help channel, I don't talk in extremes of one approach or the other, or I'd day so... but after reporting them if you want to bother, you just block them like in any other game. And if they do get banned or kicked, and they come back 5m later with another account, you block them again. It's pointless to watch it and build up to ragequit momentum, when you load another game they will be right there again.

Maybe you think it doesn't help the issue, but it does for me, and for those not forced to read the junk either. They should put it in the MOTD for the help channel on how to block if they cant police the channel much any longer. When I used the channel years ago, never saw anything like that, and was always someone on MOD duty. Maybe ISD's now = we gots the rare monocles now *shrugs* dunno

I've spent a good deal of time in Rookie Help, with a new capital alt I've started, helping out newbros.

I've seen extremely few scam attempts in-channel.

Each time they were immediately spotted and called out (in the chat channel) by several people (including me obviously). Often this would lead to a brief description and discussion of scamming in EVE, which was helpful to all the rookies.

So yeah, whoever is in charge should take action against these silly RH scammers as soon as possible. BUT I disagree this is an issue at all.

If you spend some time in Rookie Help, you'll find that the newbros that hang out there are quite smart. They are already following Rule Zero of EVE: 'Talk to people, ask questions, make friends'. They're actually the least likely to fall for scams.

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Yeah I wouldn't bother scamming in RH because rookies don't have anything worth stealing.

Fatten the prey up first.

Haven't got anyone in RH at the moment (my capital alt in training has graduated) but in other places I do see a fair number of people running scams that are against the EULA and/or CCP policy, however, including some very obvious bots from time to time. I want these people clamped down upon, as they are unfair competition and also give EULA compliant scammers a bad name.

Stop being dumb.

It's not about the OP falling for his scams, it's the newbies. And if the OP (or whoever else is helping in that channel at that moment) blocks the guy they can't see his nonsense and then explain to newbies that they are about to be scammed.

Trolling help channel is sad and show the exact same low self esteem as baiting newbies in starter systems. One has to be hilariously terrible (most are actually, when you check them) and very angry at the world, themselves and/or their lives to do that.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.

The OP is a newbie. Or his character there is. If I recall, if they haven't changed things, you don't get access to the channel indefinitely. OP's in a huff over it, all upset with EVE and CCP not wanting to be like other games or whatever. Just best to block the guy and not let it get under your skin.

Chances are this is a rare event, just some dork playing games with the channel. When it comes to newbie interactions, CCP is usually protective, so they will get to it when they can as long as someone files a report and if it is an issue anyway as far as this particular event.

Otherwise I see no issue, report it , block him, let CCP deal with it when they can. If you got scammed in the newbie channel, report it to a GM, they will most likely correct the issue. You don't need to spend your game time arguing with someone, trying to protect others that probably understand whats going on even better than you.

No, just as how the low self esteem emo wrist cutters enjoy baiting newbies in starter systems it's the same here. EVE has 5+K normal systems and only a few of those are exempt from the normal sandbox in that they are "safe havens" from most of the stuff EVE has to offer. They are policed by rules and acted upon by GM if someone felt the need to try and pump up his frail ego by toying with newbies.

Help channel is also policed by similar rules; it's one of two official channels which are save havens from most of the stuff EVE has to offer. Only terrible autists who spend their years crying about how they're just not understood would think it's "funny" to clown around in those. Morons who think they're funny and intelligent (but really aren't) should be acted upon swiftly and decisively. itrollu.jpg generally applies here.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.
