Is 70' TV too big for gaming? Computer build?

Hello,

I want to purchase a new gaming computer however I only have $3,000 for the computer. I was thinking of maybe just using my 70" sharp tv to use as a monitor however I am concerned it will be too big making it hard to see text and I might have to move my head when looking at different things on the screen.

Thoughts?

Also, if I was to use only $2,000 for the computer and $1000 for the monitor. Does anyone have any good builds for the computer or any good monitors?

Thank you,

1,000 for an OK gaming computer
1,000 for a 4k monitor
1,000 to me a a consultant fee.

Job done.

I think it'd be too big just for the sheer fact you are spanning everything across 70 inches. Let alone any other problems that may arise. Three grand will get you a decent gaming setup including monitor. You could get an even better one if sold that epeen measuring stick of a TV and just used your computer for everything.

For 3,000, you can get a proper monitor instead. Or two. A TV does not really offer the real-estate needed to play EVE properly.

70' (feet) is probably too big for your house, let alone gaming on it.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

that like asking if a sports car is too fast :)

But ya, check the resolution on the tv. You may be better off with a smaller screen at higher resolution so everything fits better on the screen.

just cut $500 out of your budget to get a nice 1440p gaming monitor using that big of a tv would be hell with eve and most games.

$2500 will still get you an amazing gaming rig with top of the line components

You just don't have an American house. Twisted

Op. Spend the isk on a couple of decent monitors. TV's will look bad in a text heavy game such as EvE.

My $250 laptop plays Eve just fine. I'm on it more than my destop even. Point is, Eve isn't the most computer resource demanding game, so I wouldn't go out and spend a lot on a rig just for Eve. As far as the monitor, 70" (assuming you mean inches not feet - go watch This Is Spinal Tap if you haven't seen it) seems uncomfortably big to play a game, but I suppose it will depend on what you enjoy and how far you are sitting from the screen. Personally, I prefer multiple monitors.

as said, you can get a good moniter or a few for that, or a really nice projector that will play eve/pc stuff better

You have a 70 foot wide tv.. just laying around...

Those are rough problems to be having my friend, rough problems indeed.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

The issue is you need to sit quite a way from it, so you might as well buy a smaller monitor. They're not that expensive anyway. For under £500 you can get a very good 27".

I tried a 55" TV as a monitor just for fun btw. It was rubbish.

I recommend multiple 27" monitors instead. 3-6 of them should be good. I do two screens for my combat character and one for the scout.

Unlocked, cleaned and move to Out of Pod Experience.

Also, a 70" TV is fine for gaming, but won't give you much desktop real estate. You'll also need to be sat pretty far away from it (3-3.5m) in order to get the full benefit of it and be comfortable, with low risk of eye strain.

I'd recommend putting 2,000 aside to build a gaming rig (I used to build them, and you can definitely build a pretty powerful machine for 2 grand) plus the last 1,000 for a couple of decent LED or IPS based monitors.

Perhaps build your own PC for 2k with water cooling.

A mate of mine built a i7 and I was dragging my jar around for a week in awe of it.

Tbh with the monitor it would prob be best to buy 2-3 separate. I have 1 39inch via hdmi and 2* 22inch.

You cannot go wrong with a sub $1000 27" 2560x1440 IPS.

According to hardforum.com and overclock.net, these are some of the best gaming 1440p:

- Eizo EV2736W
- Viewsonic VP2770
- BenQ BL2710PT
- ASUS PB278Q
- DELL U2713HM (manufactured after aug 2013)

You will never go back to 1920x1080.

Also, 4K, if you want to be an early adopter.

There's no such thing as too big Big smile

Also for $3k you can build one hell of a computer. Mine cost about $950 and it plays everything smooth as butter.
