Hello,

I thought about writing here a lot and in the end I couldnt not just not write.
I know that about this topic the opinions go either pro or contra, but at least for those living in 0.0 there is no "i dont care". If you are contra, your hobby is using your alt perma camping a system cloaked.

Well, a game is there to play and having your account just running while you are at work has nothing to do with playing a game - in my opinion. Its the same like using a bot, grinding for ore but more simple, you use nothing for him just to sit still.

Well, I think there have been more then one Idea about this. And this matter is quite complicated since there are many points to this view. But as I stated, If you are not actually there to control your cloaky, you are not playing the game anyway.

Well, here is my idea:

I like to announce that a POS module gets introduced :).
Its mechanic quite simple. Lets call it as written in the topic "Strategic Starbase Defence Shockwave System" or in short SSDSS.
The SOV holder can install said module at one of his POS. The use is limited to 1 per system. Its a module like a jump bridge, outside the POS-shields, more or less easy to attack.

A requirement to use the SSDSS is to have the skill Starbase Defence Management V. The owner of the POS (the SOV-Holder) can fly to to his POS and use the SSDSS as a gun (or more like a smartbomb).
By activating said module he a system-wide shockwave gets emitted that decloakes everything. To make it fair, we add a timer of 45 minutes before it can be reactivated.

This would make sure, that the one who is actively playing the game with his cloaky camper has to reactivate the cloak. Since it also requires a high skill, there are not too many mass-user. But at least there is now a chance to do something against a someone camping your system, just by being there.
Maybe you add a graphical effect that moves around the decloaked ship - that the active player who is playing the game on his main while having a cloaky alt sitting on his secondary monitor will get the visual notification that his ship got decloaked by the SSDSS.

Have fun discussing. I know that probably those with cloaky alts are probably in the majority here, but I thought I will give it a try, since this idea is in my head for quite some time now.

Jasmin

Even as one who does not participate in AFK cloaking, I cannot support your proposal.

Additionally, I encourage you to visit this thread and check the list for your idea.

Oh and .. you may want to make sure your Thermal Shield/Armor Compensation skills are trained to V or VI before anyone else gets here.

*groans*

Subject has been beaten to death. Idea in subject is nothing new.

Until you address WHY people afk-cloak in the first place and offer a simultaneous solution for that, your proposal is a non-starter.

Thanks, I didnt find that topic when I searched for it - I only found people complaining. Its quite a list, which encourages me that there are more people then me who really want to find a solution about this topic. Its a good start. Should be taken care of.

@ ShahFluffers:
Lol, if you cannot answer your question of the WHY for yourself, you are maybe not the one who should play this game in the first place cause its too complicated for you to realize the mechanics on how things work.

Out of the legions of suggestions we have heard in regards to AFK cloaking, this is one of the better ones.

I have read the previous thread on this subject linked in the master thread posted by the user above, and in that thread there is no proper rebuttal against the idea. Just trolls repeating one-liners they've been told before. Until I see a reasonable criticism against this idea I'll assume it's been unfairly bundled into the rest of the ideas due to the closed-minded nature of the community.

EDIT: I see user "Mag's" did take the time to properly respond. His point seems to be that the solution breaks cloaking for active cloakers. I don't see this as an issue. It adds a new strategy in finding cloakers - even the active ones - at the cost of increased risk for the cloaker. Considering you need a fair amount of skills, sov, and a 45-minute timer to use the anti-cloaking module, I see no issue with that balance. IMO this is simply a case of cloakers being scared of having to put a little more effort and risk into their craft.

Cost of sov bill ( for upgrade that you put into ihub ) is 5b , as it is used to maintain vast satellite network across the system.

... then i agree ;)

AFK cloaking is a problem for those on the receiving end. I'm sure by now the bright sparks in New Eden would have come up with something to counter it. This idea is a good one. As for the 5B sov bill: a thinly-disguised waterfall of tears at the thought of this being implemented.

This is nothing new. Cloaking is fine local is the problem.
Reported as duplicate thread.

AFK cloaking is only a problem for cowards and fools who refuse to fight and defend their own space. the same mindset that fears cloaks is the one that created the 2-coalition borefest that is current 0.0, stagnant, slow, forever afraid of real conflict for fear of losing their piece of pie. EVE was better before the coalitions got out of hand. Now there is literally no way for anyone to actually "enter" nullsec withoutt he approval of someone already there, since its in their best interest to destroy, crush, and overall scare off any players who would dare try and venture out into their territory without magically creating a coalition of equal size with equal capital support from their safe haven of highsec.

You want cloaks nerfed? then fix null first.

That is quite a bold statement I'm afraid as I can assure you most people adverse to anti cloaking devices of any sort are not AFK cloakers themselves.

This statement is equally bold as it implies you are a CCP Dev. Only CCP personnel can announce new things are being added to the game I'm afraid.

That said, thread locked.
