During the course of my first year I did nearly everything. Flew in all types of space in ships from every race, data sites, null pvp, lived in a worm hole, tried a suicide gank...

I was largely unsuccessful at all of it but from a learning standpoint I was highly successful. I figired out what I liked and made a lot of great contacts from all over the game.

My suggestuon is to just do what you want. Don't measure your success against your kill board or wallet amd its easy to win eve every day.
