I like how it said Kraft is exempt because it doesn't "make cheese"...it "manufactures cheese" :)

reading the content of that article just says to me that some people just have toooooo much time on their hands ..I wonder how many people over the centuries have died having eaten cheese matured on a wood base ?. Roll

I can guarantee you that EVERYONE who has eaten cheese matured on a wooden base has (or will at some point) die.
The same applies to drinking water and breathing air.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Yeah....like that horrible "powdered Parmesan" in those green cans. Yuck !

The huge food conglomerates just have to be behind this somehow..........the artisinal food movement terrifies them. That food is real, and the conglomerates have forgotten how to make anything real. But....all those chemicals and preservatives definitely do no harm... Roll

You put gun control and cheese in the same sentence, and then complain when it gets political? lol! Since when can anyone say "gun" these days without it going political?

American cheese isnt cheese. There are melted tyres with better taste and texture which is why that stuff is banned in the EU.

You're talking about the processed stuff which doesn't actually qualify as cheese (like Hershey's doesn't actually make chocolate). There are regional and local cheese makers that make actual cheese (not for export) that starts to approach the quality of cheese in Europe (though the no-raw-milk restriction will always prevent them from getting there).

These regional and local cheeses are actually "food" as opposed to product. The illegal FDA imposition, if they were to stick to it, would kill the real-food cheese makers dead.

That said, I'd shrug and buy the imported stuff anyway.

Actually, if the FDA had stuck to their guns, you wouldn't be able to. It would have been illegal to sell the imported varieties too. Fortunately, someone over there saw the writing on the wall (read, enough people got upset that someone's job was in jeopardy about this) and they back pedaled faster than a mime on a unicycle.

My statement was both a joke and a comparison about the imbalance of "issues".

Kaarous decided to "make his stand for his beliefs" on it by dragging in the more politically volatile "Constitutional Right" nonsense, specifically towards guns.

And on this, does this mean the USA is going to ban the import of about half the cheeses made by traditional cheese mongers in Italy / Greece etc? Since they all mature on wooden boards.

I would be interested in seeing the guys bank accounts. I would not be surprised if he had a large sum of money deposited recently from somewhere in the synthetic food industry.

Nah... Regulators have gone bananas with power under the current administration. FDA, FAA, EPA, IRS. Granted, many of the appointees to these bureaucracies came from the industries they are aimed at. Even so, this is a case of sufficiently advanced incompetence being indistinguishable from malice.

Edit: I'm sure there's a move to ban bananas afoot.

Paranoid fear of any tapwater, grilling their meat stone cold cuz germs, napkins with everything. Hosophobia is a national pasttime.

On the other hand, if you order a pastrami sandwich, you get 2mm thick slices of bread filled fith 5 inches of hot meat. And sauce. Covered in a mound of french fries. All of these products have been 'enriched' with corn syrup, and now contain twice the caloric value of the real article.



The cheese business was doing quite well in the US, much like the microbrewery scene. Too bad, it would have been nice to see the nation develop more taste. Sadly, the aerosol cheese business needs to increase their Q3 sales forecast, so a few mil to lobby the FDA, who cares.
