Missile skills vs turret skills

Hello,

Sorry if this topic has been previously discussed, I have not been able to find it.

Anyway, here is the idea:
- Gallente, Amarr and Minmatar use primarily turrets. There is one primary skills (hybrid, projectile and energy) for S, M L and XL-sized turrets for each race. And then there are 2 specialization skills (Artillery/auto cannon, beam/pulse laser, blaster/rail gun) for S, M and L turrets for each race.
- Caldari on the other hand are missile specialists. And there are 2 primary skills for S, M, L and XL sized launchers and 2 specialization skills for S, M and L launchers.

So you need to learn 4 more skills in order to match a perfect skill set for your primary weapon type if you play Caldari. That's not very fair IMHO :)

Plus the skill ranks are could be the same (right now every small weapon skill rank is 1 except rockets which is 2, and every large weapon skill rank is 5 except for torpedoes which is 4).

Also if there is T2 ammunition for S, M and L weapons requiring a corresponding specialization, why wouldn't it be plausible extending the same logic onto XL weapons (introducing T2 XL ammunition and XL specialization skills)?

Thanks,
Mark

Guns and missiles are different with missiles being easier to use and much more forgiving of low SP. The fact that they are different is a good thing as it adds variety and choice to the game.

Also, the last thing we need is T2 ammo for capitals. They are powerful enough already.

This topic gets more confusing considering the current pre-requisites for gun skills have changed. But in practice, missiles allow for players to access any weapon of their choosing, while turrets require players to train an entire 'line' of weapons.

Until fairly recently, access to a T2 turret required having access to the T2 turret of the next smaller size, as well as both specialization skills trained to IV. So for example, one couldn't simply train for T2 large laser turrets when wanting to fly an Amarr battleship. You first had to train the entire line of laser turrets all the way to T2/Spec IV (x2), even if you never flew anything else with lasers.
When Hybrids got their big buff and Naga's and Megathrons became FOTM, many players had to go back and train small and med hybrids to T2- because Hybrids had been terrible for so long many people hadn't trained them at all.

In contrast, the first T2 missile I could use were Torpedoes, on Stealth Bombers. Without having trained any smaller missile to T2 level, I could use advanced battleship sized missiles.

The pre-reqs for T2 turrets changed, but the concept of having to train a 'line' of turrets as opposed to training whatever missile you feel like remains a critical nuance that differentiates missiles and turrets.

the only thing I dont understand about missiles and turrets is reload time.... Missiles have the longest reload time from all weapons... when you finally reload... then you have to wait for missile reach its target.... Missile users are punished twice.... this is the biggest joke.....

Missile skills aren't identical to gunnery skills? What's next... Someone is going to tell me shield and armor tanking are different too?
