Ok, so I want to cross train to caldari ships for their EWAR, and some of their other ships. Where's a good place to get them?
Just started, but I want to have a plan.

Thanks in advance.

Look in the market browser and you should find them. Generally speaking you buy them from "academy"-type NPC corps.

You might have more luck finding Caldari-specific skillbooks (and missile skillbooks) in Caldari space.

Go to Jita. The Station on planet 4 moon 4 is the main trade hub for EvE. You can find anything you want there. Once there, turn your market search to region. That will show you if there are any cheaper skill books a jump or two out.

On the left hand side of your in game screen should be a list of icons. One of them is your star map. When you click it a map of the EvE Universe pops up. Once you get to the star map, right click in the space between planets. A menu pops up that gives you a list of options. One of them should be search. Search for Jita and then set that as your destination. Your autopilot is now set to take you to Jita. The correct jump gate on your overview will be highlighted. Jump gate to gate until you get to Jita. A couple of notes on this.

1. I would recommend looking at the star map for the first time in a station (while docked) so you don't drift around while you figure things out.

2. Your auto pilot has various settings to determine the route it calculates for you. You want to keep it on safest right now which will keep you in high sec space if at all possible.

3. If you click on the auto pilot icon (A located in the top right corner of the screen I believe), it will display the autopilot route. Systems are color coded based on their security status. Anything .5 and above (high sec) is not red. Anything below .4 (low sec and null sec) is red. I understand the color shades are more subtle than this, but I am color blind so I stick with what I see in regards to descriptions. Avoid low sec and null sec just now until you get the hang of the game basics.

4. Avoid engaging the auto pilot itself. Just follow its route. Warp to each gate at zero and jump to the next system. If you let it fly you there you will not warp to the gate at zero but instead warp just short of the gate and then slow boat to the gate. This is one way people die to suicide squads in high sec.

You will pay more in Jita for skillbooks. Your best bet is a Caldari station that has 365 day sell orders up (these are the NPC orders, which is where most skillbooks come from).

Depends what skills really. For all your basic skills, best to get them around a career agent station off of the market there. People are kind to sell those skills for fair/cheap prices there for new players etc.

Cardari EWAR? haha! luck with that Blink I have vicious ewar skills trained and will just say that some of those skill books sell at a premium. Major trade hub... probably pay more as most skills are over priced there, but can get them all in one place for convenience. Maybe try a market app? I have some on android works well, easy to search google play for them apps. But if just looking for a few things for now, maybe look up http://www.eve-central.com for prices and locations.

I'm in it for the money

1. undock
2. type Jita in chat
3. paint the word you just typed
4. right click it
5. choose solar system
6. right click the now created hyper link
7. choose set destination
8. press huge A next to your capacitor
9. wait for +30 minutes for autopilot to stop
10. on destination choose Caldari navy assembly plant at planet 4, moon 4
11. profit

and people wonder why it' so hard write a good quide when there's 11 steps in just using the auto pilot. Big smile

For a new player you shouldn't need to travel to Caldari regions to buy skillbooks. All the basic books are available in the schools stations in your region, whether that is Domain, Tash-Murkon, Kor-Zor or wherever you started.

The books referred to above that aren't seeded in all regions are the Missile Gunnery and Drone Specialization skills which you probably aren't too worried about yet.

There are some other exceptions such as Capital Ship skillbooks and some of the more specialised industry skillbooks but again they are usually found in the main trade hubs and probably aren't an immediate concern for you.

Short version : all of what you need should be available locally. The only exception here would be if you have moved away from your starter system to somewhere like Derelik where there aren't any NPC seeded skillbooks.

If you're in the Imperial Academy you should be based in Deepari.

You can get Caldari skillbooks two jumps away in Chaven.

[Edit] In other words, just follow this advice:

So would it be better to focus on other skills atm? I want to expand my options beyond Amarr frigates. Should i continue down the tree or look at another race's ships?

I think the best advice is to work on your core skills first. Those are skills that effect fitting and capacitor usage. Most of them are found in the Engineering skill section. Devote a week to those and get them in the Rank IV or V range.

Since you've got Amarr related skills, you should have a good start to flying turret based ships. All four of the Empire factions have ships that use turrets, you would just need to train the specific projectiles (Minmatar) or hybrid (Caldari/Gallente) skills to be able to use their weapon systems as well as the appropriate faction Frigate skill. None of those should take terribly long for you to dip your feet in and see which you prefer, you could probably intersperse training rank I or II even if you go with the Engineering skills first.

Missiles and Drones, depending on your focus, may take a bit longer to train since Amarr doesn't have a whole lot to offer T1 frigate-wise in those areas anymore.

If you need a list of some basic skills, here is one:

EVE - Basic Skills

CPU, Capacitor, Power Grid, Navigation, Shield/Armor and Gunnery/Missiles basic and core skills are all there. Just check that if you need anything specific.
