I'm not sure this is going to happen in any more detail than already provided, even though as players we would like it.

The cynic in me wants to say that CCP haven't laid out the future clearly because they don't have a clear future, just a general idea.

That's probably too harsh a judgment though and I suspect they do have a plan, but that it is still so flexible at the moment that laying out a clear path now would be laying out a future that will turn out differently anyway.

Industry overhaul > Corp & Alliance Management overhaul > POS & Outpost overhaul > Sov & Warfare Overhaul > Player Built Stargates & New Space

That was the general and long term roadmap that Seagull presented at Fanfest. Doesn't mean every release will have each subsequent feature, of course. They will be ready when they're ready. In between I'm sure we'll see some smaller stuff as they become ready for release.

Just wondering if we could maybe get a running view of the 6 week patches.

Oh, you can get one.

However, given CCP's stated strategy of freely moving stuff around in the timetable to accommodate "**** happens" and various other unforeseen issues (oh, like devs being canned Roll ) it's not really worth the paper napkin it's scribbled on.

Credit where credit is due, it's a system that CAN work.... IF a company has capable managers to crack the whip.

Truly, we live in interesting times. Roll

If you boil a frog slowly it doesn't notice and never jumps out the water. The question is, who's the frog...

The incremental patches seem like a way to stick it to one section of the player base in the most gentle way possible. Whether that is empire, big blue donut, or elite pvp rental rmt remains to be seen. Possibly, it's everyone.

I give it to the Oceanus update, before they switch to another awesome cool totally hip style of releasing patches. Not to mention they will probably miss the dates or push back content in at least 3 of those. Not including the Indy changes.

i don;t think they need to push any back, that coudl do 3 patches of nothing but little things which would be quick and easy to do and still have plently of content. there is a crap load of unfinished stuff in eve that needs to be addressed

No this si a good judgement, i doubt they have all the details done yet. Its kinda liek when you go to write a story. You do an outline of what you want things to be, hero is a mage with this ability, and has to defeat the bad guy, and when he does the world is saved.

Thats the road map. Now that you have that, you fill in the details: Heros name is xxx he lives here and starts the adventure by yyy.

Thats how it works. its not set in stone just a general outline of what needs to happen to get to new space. How it happens, and when is anyones guess

You all know it, this 6 patch nonsense is the way for ccp to minimize its efforts on eve online. It's a desperat move, from a company that have lost its revenue on backwater projects that never worked out as they hoped. But do they learn? No, they are hoplessly continuing to pour money into projects like Valkery and Legion. If they want to save CCP, they should gamble on the pricewinning horse thats been solid for a decade.

How does this minimize effort exactly? Because I said already, if this works as it should it will do the opposite.

Reach expansion, release, patch, whatever, no longer tied into a theme, with that theme not set on a locked date means more flexability.

As I said in an earlier post, in theory (as we don't know how this will work in full practice till another patch or two) This system gives them more options to repair stuff.

What I mean is this: in the old system, they would pick a theme, lets say they picked Player Owned Structures and the theme for eve online: castle. Lets say they look it, and decide the release date will be dec 2nd. 2014. So they look at pos's and discover it is going to take a year worth of work to fix them. and they need several teams to do it, So they now have two options. 1) drop the idea of fixing pos' and change the expansion theme to something easier. or 2) put the guys to work on pos' and the rest do insignificant fixes and release a weak expansion. Then the next one, out in a year, will be a pos over haul.

Now lets say they went with 2. and as they were working, got 4 months into the project and learned that no, we will need to fix these other systems first, so now we have two years of work. So they would decide to scrap it and move on.

The new system, goes like this. "We need to fix pos's, but we have all these other systems first. lets get cracking" So the pos guys get there year, but lets say in 4 months they see the corps and alliances need fixing, so they can have guys work on that, and as code is done, it gets released.

In theory, as I said but prolly did not describe it well, this give flexibility. Which is GOOD. Will it work out that way? who knows. Is this new system a sign of eve is dying? No. Its a sign of changing directions and momentums, and is not a bad thing at all.

Also, remind me if I ever run a company to NOT hire you.

There is an old phrase called 'not keeping your eggs in one basket' It is ridiculous for CCP to just have eve. It is not good in a business sense or a logical one at all.

They are learning. Dust was obviously an underperforming if not failed product. So they are essentially canning it and making legion.

And as I said above, the new schedule of releases gives them flexibility. They were able to push the industry changes back, because of the new system, giving more time for feedback. in the old system we would of gotten it, and if it was buggy or broken, they would of moved on to the next shiney.

They've already messed up their roadmap as they detailed during fanfest.. I guess they decided to skip bits and pieces.. but here was the original plan OP.

CCP has already named and dated the next nine updates as well. Here’s what to expect, assuming delays don’t put the whole schedule through some crazy blender tornado.
◾Kronos – 3rd June
◾Crius – 19th August
◾Hyperion – 23rd September
◾Oceanus – 4th November
◾Phoebe – 9th December
◾Rhea – 20th January 2015
◾Tethys – 7th February
◾Theia – 17th March
◾Themis – 4th April

as you can see they've only met one date thus far with Kronos... and already messed up Rhea .. I guess that's the expanision to fix the current nerf/expansion wtf ever they want to call it.. Crius august?? nope july 22nd..

Ccp couldn't stick with a plan if someone paid them to..lol

but as you know ... all discussion of expanisions/patch fix.. are always TBD.. and can change after someone says OOPS! its not ready yet.

I'm sure the upper managers are going to love the new system - "flexibility" means no whip to crack over the teams. "You must meet this expansion deadline!!" "Ha ha ha! Yeah, right. C'mon it's only another 6 weeks of slip."

In the meantime the investors, market speculators, and marketing guys are looking for a way to end their misery.

What's the point of cracking the whip if it gives you half-assed jesus feature needing to be overhauled later?
