On joining a corp:

For a large part of my EVE life, i have chosen to be in a NPC corp (SCOPE, and PERKONE with an alt), because player corps didnt offer the spontanious activity, the personal interaction, and the knowledge of EVE that i wanted.

I finally found a good one, but i never would have had i not been pretty active with the NPC corps activity...

BUT, I think that there could be a solution to this problem, for people like me (and there are many).

Just like corps can ally with each other for wars, i think that corps should be able to have a way to let new players in--without having them jump directly into their corp.

The mechanics ought to be something like this:

Corp recruits, and finds a person their interested in, sell them all the right lies, and get them to sign up.

When person goes to sign up for corp, they have 2 options, be sponsored by the corp for a defined period (up to ccp, but i think 14 days max), or join the corp after 24 hours (for 24 hours, they are sponsored).

....what is sponsorship?
..... it would be a mechanic that would allow the recruit to:1. join their corp chat (and keep their npc corp tab), 2. wear their tag, 3. defend themselves in wars if fired on first (cannot attack war targets first in high sec, wouldnt show in recruits overview, wouldnt show as war target), 4. not effect the corps npc standings, 5. unable to have any roles (this saves from getting tons of pos gunners in a hurry). 6. Contribute no taxes to the player-corp. 7. can see the corps standings (are they blue to everyone, red to your friends?)

It would allow people to test-out a corp, to see if the personal touches like an active chat, smart people, experienced people, are REALLY there--or even to see if their time zones are a good fit, without a commitment that removes them from the comfort and knowledge of the NPC world. The greatest advantage to young players, is their npc corp--and they dont know it. SO MANY join a really aweful player corp in the first few days/hours, and are completely lost because of it. Sure, "new player" chat is there--but most scroll so fast, that questions get ignored and missed, or not asked because of poor attitude. THIS way, a person could also keep their npc corp chats for a period, to get adjusted.

the corp, or the player, can terminate the sponsorship at any time--or, if the corp is willing to accept the player, they can open up a option to let the player join right away as a member--but it would still be up to the player (if the player does nothing, at the end of sponsorship, they're removed from it, and placed back into their npc corp, and sever all ties otherwise). ALSO, if you have already been a member of the player corp--you CANNOT be sponsored by them, you join as a member right away.

just an idea. prolly needs more flesh.

edit: also, trial members should only be allowed sponsorships.
