The truth about EVE-O forum personalities

Yep, my mothers family is Irish. I just refer to them as the crazier-than-me bunch, but thinking about it the humour thing definitely comes from them.

Still, I do get a little bit where OP is coming from. After reading Kugu for years, then parts of the Test forum whilst in the HBC I really started to get intolerant of forums generally. There is a lot of mindless sniping (which isn't actually funny) and unpleasantness. Wierdly I used enjoy parts of SA, don't mind reddit, but there are some forums so toxic I wouldn't even bother.

I snap at people from time-to-time myself - but again, that's not just on the forums. Most people have degrees of intolerance and we can all be snappy. If I see particular posters being a bit arsey, unless they are persistently obnoxious I tend to ignore it. Sometimes it's just their tone (I remember Shar Tegral taking a lot of criticism on MD, despite making a lot of pertinent points), or they're having a bad day v0v

Reading what Akita wrote earlier, part of me thinks we shouldn't cave too much to posting style and all end up sounding the same. 4chan memes and one line retorts do get a it wearing after a bit (unless they are genuinely funny). I probably write more than I need to, but if people can't be bothered reading longer comments, I'm not sure I want to engage with them anyway.

I hate it when people remark "sarcasm is the lowest form of humour". It's not, people just have to learn how to take it without offence.

I would also like to point out, the eve O forum sees a fair bit of people apologise for unnecessary harsh posts and overreactions. It's by no means common but you do see it from time to time.

forum posts? heh. your parents haven't seen anything. you may or may not be aware I am an artist; from the age of 12 my room was raided on a regular basis by my parents who often found themselves explaining to me that coitus between the ninja turtles and april o'neil was unnatural. it was well-drawn art, too, which made it even more disturbing. all the way through high school, my parents had to dispose of my sketchbooks by the bag loads. I drew things you can't find in magazines.

text. as adults. man you gotta set the bar way higher.

I think they know about the mature art site I have been a member of for 8 years (and site staff for 5), and these days they're just happy to see me when I visit.

I'd certainly like to send my mother my post history, I doubt she'd see the point in reading that much though and if she did read it all, she would ask me why I wasted her time by sending her that.
I do not think anyone's wife/gf would care so much about their bf/husbands behavior on a forum which in no way affects them in real life, if the way they post resembles the way they act in real life...it might become a problem, but not because of them posting that way on the forums.
As for boss? If any employee was to send me it, I'd fire them just because I don't care and don't want to read all the bullshit they do on something I don't care about.

My Wife reads my posts. Shes not a fan, but still laughs.. or simply shakes her head.. or tells me to edit a post to not be an ass.

My Boss wouldn't be surprised one little bit.. He would be surprised if I DIDNT act the way I do.

My Mother wouldn't be bothered by anything that ive posted, but would be horrified at the things people in local say about her 'bedroom activities'.

Now if you excuse me, I need to go play with my muffin.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
