The Pod and the Cockpit

For some time Ive noticed that some of the smaller EVE ships look as if they had a cockpit with a canopy.

Im asuming that is where the pod goes, Otherwise it could pass for just a regular cockpit with a seat.

BTW, how will Valkrie deal with the pod issue....or is it time to get rid of that weird piece of lore?

Lorewise, all ships are crewed. Something like 40-100 people on Frigates, and increasing as you go up, all the way to the half a million that live on Titans.
Our ships all have a bridge, and engineering, and galleys, sickbays, maintenance shafts, staterooms, heads, so on and so forth. We're basically just the computer.

And the pod is here to stay. Unless you want your clone to die when your ship does. I'm not liking that idea very much.

I was looking at the new Crow. It looks so much like a one man fighter. Hard to believe there is a "crew" in it

The cockpit creates a wrong sense of proportion. I read somewhere that the humble Gallente Shuttle is somewhat larger than the biggest aircraft in existence. Your frigate is huge.

In relation to crew on EvE ships, here's the detail:

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/New_Eden_crew_guidelines

As far as Valkyrie goes, the pod doesn't come into it. Valkyrie pilots come from fighter pilots and the ships are more fighter-like, so single person crew with different cloning technology.

Also, remember Capsules are needed as a interface between the Capsuleer's brain and the ship's artificial neural network.
They're not just fancy cloning devices.

Not really "huge", more like the size of a smaller Boeing.

Myeah, compared to a typical one-man fighter, I'd still call it huge. P
But looking at the shipsize video on youtube again, you're right in most cases.

Most, if not all of the ships we fly are normal ships that have been rigged so that pod pilots can fly them with pods. Probably because the number of people who can be pod pilots are so incredibly small. Since they're converted hulls, it makes sense there will be legacy cockpits/bridges on them.

Check out this Algos destroyer art for how it would work.

Amarr shuttle is 52M long.

64M in game.

Once upon a time the Golem had a Raven hull and it looked good. Then it transformed into a plataduck. The end.

From the outsite it does indeed look like a cockpit, but that'll be down to the individual model & how much detail it shows.
inside though it could be more like :

Outside :
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090802180560/stargate/images/2/2f/OrionBridge.jpg
where the crew are, considering your pod is likely deep inside the ship where it'd be least vulnerable to going bang when the ship does.

Valkyrie cloning tech certainly suggests that the pod may become irrelevant one day. I don't know what the limitation are vs pod cloning, but regardless they are sure to be swallowed by the insatiable munching of progress. One day, everybody will be an immortal clone.

At least one of the older stories had a capsuleer in a small ship alone, mining. I think the rookie ships are just you in the pod.

The word cockpit should be banned, because it's clearly an innuendo.

That cockpit can prob hold atleast 30 people. Even a shutle matches some of the rather large planes we got here on earth in size.
