New module: Warp Gate Disruptor
Deployable module that disrupts the operation of (one side of) a warp gate (i.e. stuns the gate). The warp gate disruptor disrupts unidirectional travel through the warp gate. All attempts to enter the side of the warp gate where an active warp gate disruptor is deployed will fail while the warp gate disruptor is active.

A message similar to the current 'gate closed - congested' message will appear to any ship attempting to enter the disrupted warp gate.

The warp gate disruptor may be attacked. The warp gate disruptor may enter reinforced mode upon receiving a threshold of damage. The warp gate disruptor may be remote repaired.

The warp gate disruptor may be deployed in highsec, lowsec , nullsec and/or wormhole systems.

The warp gate disruptor may also disrupt wormholes and unidirectional wormhole travel.

The warp gate disruptor may be fueled, and may deactivate when empty. A mobile siphon unit may be used to siphon fuel out of the warp gate disruptor.

Deploying, fueling, and/or remote repairing a warp gate disruptor in highsec and/or lowsec may activate a suspect timer and/or a criminal timer for the pilot deploying, fueling, and/or remote repairing the warp gate disruptor.

The color of (the plasma of) a disrupted warp gate may be different than the color of a non-disrupted warp gate. The color (of the plasma of) the disrupted warp gate may be affected on both sides of the disrupted warp gate.

Warp gate disruptors may be deployed and activated on both sides of a warp gate, resulting in bidirectional disruption of travel through the warp gate.

Concord may automatically clear warp gate disruptors deployed in highsec. The warp gate disruptor(s) may be cleared by Concord at server downtime.

Do you mean stargates?

Firstly, I assume you mean jump gates. I'm sorry to be negative about your idea but it's pretty darned terrible.

It buffs gate camping massively (you can jump into the gate camp but not back out of it).

It buffs large fleets over small fleets (a large fleet can easily confine a smaller fleet to a single system or corral a smaller fleet in the direction you want it to go. It helps large fleets whilst simultaneously nerfing small fleets thus perpetuating the drive for larger and larger fleet sizes)

It buffs hot dropping and cap ships as they don't need to use jump gates. We don't need more reasons to use caps and supers.

It makes pretty much everything else harder.

With even a cursory investigation into the effect such a thing would have it seems pretty obvious to me that this would suck big fat donkey balls.

An alternate idea: Stargate Scrambler

When deployed, makes ships jump to random destinations.

This is a horrible idea. As a guy who spends a great deal of time pushing through or around gatecamps I can say without a doubt that gatecamps don't actually need an "I win" button. It's already hard enough to outsmart a good camp, this idea would make it actually impossible. Gatecamps are already well balanced and effective with just enough counterplay to make them interesting and solvable for those who wish to do so.

This would only serve to deepen force projection problems and prevent smaller groups from taking what is already a significant risk to infiltrate and exploit hostile space. In fact, the last few updates have been all about enabling entities to do exactly that. The SOE ships, deployables, and now the prospect and blockade runner/DST revamps exist specifically to create opportunities for creative thinking to get around sheer force of numbers and guns.

Making the whole game revolve around who can herpderp pile more guns on a problem is not good design, and would only deepen sov stagnation which isn't fun for anybody, be it large alliances or small corps, it creates a very boring experience.

Umm, no. But I offer a counter proposal...

Null sec only. Disrupts only one side of the gate. Opposite side of the gate becomes immune for twice the duration of the affected side. If you trap a bait ship, you still get the fleet waiting to join him, but can't escape yourself.

Edit - Any ship fitting the gate disruptor can't fit a cloak or probe launcher. The disruptor would have a 30 second cooldown after decloaking after a jump before being able to active.

In addition, portable wormhole generators are created. They move the oldest untouched (if anyone has so much as locked probes on it, never mind landed on grid or traveled through it) wormhole from anywhere in the universe to a location near the pilot, but not within 150km of any "permanent" object. (Gate, planet, POS, SBU, belt.) End point of the wormhole is retained, duration is cut to one hour, mass is cut to 10% of its natural mass. If no untouched holes are available, one is created. Mass is 10% of average hole with its destination, duration set to 15 minutes, and it does not respawn in a new system when it expires.

Further edit - wormhole spawner uses fuel. Expensive fuel.
