An Old Player on a Rudderless Ship

I'm dropping this here as I think its something new players might have to contend with eventually and the ideas, if any, might be useful. I know EVE is all about setting a goal for yourself then achieving that goal. I have found that a fresh perspective is at least educational and at most inspiring.

First, a little background. I'm by no means the oldest player, but I've been around for little bit. For most of the time this character has been around I've been playing. Though I fancy myself a miner, prospector and industrialist like most I've been in wars, spent a little time in null sec space, lived in low-sec, and done a few other things. A few months back I took a little break. I needed to handle real life and couldn't play for a bit. When I left I was in a corporation of friends and we were doing our own thing. Upon my return I found myself in a derelict corporation, the only remaining member. Everyone had moved on to other games and left EVE all together. At the moment I am floating along in that same derelict corporation, rudderless and undecided on how best to proceed.

So I'm wondering in a situation like this are there any suggestions as to where to go next? Having played as long as I have I do have some preferences, but I'm not beyond branching out a bit. The only thing that doesn't excite me any is player controlled null sec. I'm allergic to politics. Though this isn't a recruitment post I am open to joining another corporation, but before looking for a new one its good to have an idea of what you're looking for. Overall I am just looking for suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Check out this thread which is an excellent guide to finding a corporation.

Don't let your experience discourage you from trying new things. I also started this game with friends and none of them are left, but I have made many new friends in the process. There are many corporations out there that would be glad to accept a semi-experienced member that is looking to branch out. If you are looking for something new and different perhaps give PvP a shot. It sounds like you've a bit of experience in different types of space - I'd suggest giving wormhole space a try. It has a great mix of PvP and PvE for the well rounded player and quite a different feel from empire space with the necessity for stealth and intel gathering. Whatever you do, find a good group. This game is built on player interaction and as you probably know, evening the dullest activities (mining Big smile) are more interesting when you have people to do it with.

Unless you plan to be a lone shark, spend done time researching corporations and join one that looks interesting and active.
