A Remembrance - The Battle of Mekhios

On June 10th at 03:00, I will be holding a Ceremony of Remembrance and Prayer on the anniversary of the Battle of Mekhios.

In that battle, Blessed Jamyl, the soon to become Empress Jamyl I, returned to save her People through a Divine Miracle and dealt the blow that ultimately turned the tide of battle and ended in the defeat of the Elder invasion.

Despite the ultimate victory of the Amarr, multiple worlds were ravaged with extensive destruction and injury to persons, environment, and infrastructure and billions perished and were injured in the treacherous invasion by the Minmater "Elders" in contravention of existing treaties and understandings with the 4 great powers and Concord. Concord itself was unlawfully assaulted in order to facilitate the treachery. It is my intention at that Ceremony to remember those who we have lost and the lessons the Amarr have learned from this event.

All faithful and loyal members of the Empire and Kingdom and treasured Allies are invited to this Ceremony.

Please message me for an invitation and/or for requests to speak. The location will be provided at that time.

I'll not sally forth to battle the small-minded brigade of furriers that will no doubt scurry forth to post on the IGS after I post this. I have better things to with my time, like reflect, and pray.

Amarr Victor.

Wish we could make it but we will honor those that have fallen.

Regardless of their intentions, the actions of the Elder Fleet were cowardly and destructive and the results disastrous not only to their holder enemies but to the lives of innocent people and the very slaves they sought to free, to say nothing of their treacherous actions against CONCORD and the chaotic ramifications that would cause elsewhere. Their defeat is worthy of celebration and their victims worthy of mourning.

My condolences for the innocent lives lost on that day.

My caravan will be holding its own ritual of rememberance to honour those Thukker who didn't return to the Wildlands, including those who were down on the surface of Mekhios; may they be at peace with their ancestors.

This is a a little on the late side of my usual cycle, but I should be able to attend.

I have not been by the Basilica in some time, and it is past time for another visit.

Why do I doubt you and yours have learned much of anything, from this or any other event?

I wouldn't say that. I've occasionally met reasonable Imperial Empyreans, who - even if somewhat slowly - understand the need for reform and change. Obviously, this is unlikely to be very universal in the Empire, but it's a start.

A pity it's not likely to make a difference for a few generations yet.

The lesson that Republic-affiliated warships should, the moment they leave Republic space, be shot out of the sky swiftly, without question, and with overwhelming force - as some might say, with extreme prejudice - was a costly one.

But we learned it, and we learned it well. We only needed the once.

It remains to be seen if CONCORD, or the Federation, have learned this lesson too. For their sake, I pray they have.

Miss Otsito:
You are mostly correct that change is slow in the Empire. It is often best compared to a very large boulder located on top of a hill. It takes a lot of effort by a fair number of people, working together, to get it to begin moving slowly towards the slopes. But once it gets far enough along - that is, the right people in the right positions - it begins moving all on its own without much further assistance.

Just as there will always be those who push for change, for better or for ill, so there will be those who push back and try to impede it (again, for better or for ill). This, of course, is not much different in any other society in New Eden. Sometimes all that is needed is a light shone in the right dark corner, or just the gentlest of nudges in precisely the right places.

The gentlest of nudges, like an invasion fleet as a result of truly staggering acts of cruelty and enslavement. Let's hope someone among you took a different lesson to heart than you did from that event. Self-inflicted calamities are very valuable learning experiences.

Sadly, the Empire is hardly alone when it comes to self-inflicted calamities.

I wouldn't be too sad about it. Like I said, they're very valuable learning opportunities. Think we'll see another Heth any time soon? The State will be better off now and in the future after this particular lesson than we would have been without it. The same applies to every faction in New Eden in some way or another.

The Empire seems to be a rather slow learner, is all.

Well, that's true, of course Jinari. We've had our deplorable fling with centralised authority and, Maker willing, it'll be a warm day on Home before we head down THAT path again.

The sad thing, I suppose, is the inevitable cost of these learning experiences.

Better the lesson learned at that cost, than not learned at the same cost.
