Hi Everyone,

So I'm seriously considering purchasing the new Surface Pro 3 tablet from Microsoft. I want your opinion on how well this device will run a single copy of Eve Online with its Intel HD 4000 series graphics. It will have a resolution of 2160x1440 and 4GB of RAM.

Im expecting it to work decently, provided I turn the settings down in Eve. Looking forward to the possibility of being able to play the game on the run!

I don't see why it would have any issues with eve on medium settings, don't think a tablet is the way I would play eve, I never did like touch screens where you put your hands in the way of what your trying to see.

A surface pro 2 is able to run Eve just fine so I see no reason the 3 wouldn't. It was only demonstrated to me once but it seemed to pull a consistent 30fps @ 1080p.

As suggested above the touch screen may not be the best control option, maybe a bluetooth mouse so you don't need to occupy the single USB port.

I run 2 clients simultaneously on the Surface Pro 1 ~40fps on low settings.

You will want an external monitor and usb hub though :)

My Pro 2 ran Eve fine, just be aware that EvE is super hard to use via the touch surface, especially the overview and you can't quit without a keyboard.

Thanks for the replies!

I understand where you're coming from about the fingers on the screen, blocking what you see. This wouldn't be a replacement for my PC at home. I would simply use this to log in to chat to my corpies, make skill changes, start/finish industry jobs and maybe jump through a few gates...all while on my lunch break at work or on the train etc.

Does anyone have a video of Eve on one of these things?

But you won't see the titan gatecamp when you're entering lowsec from highsec because of all the cheetos stains on the screen. Think of your poor ship. What?

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

I'm only suggesting this, any tablet you buy irregardless doesn't have enough punch to really run a graphics intensive program such as Eve., You'll be at a disadvantage especially when you're using a touch screen and very few offers any means other than a usb port to connect a mouse and keyboard.

Many tablets on the market today are so thin that even a usb port unless it's a micro usb wont exist. I have looked at a number of reviews regarding these devices and I don't recommend going this route.

You can try it and see if it works but in my honest opinion I don't recommend this route.StraightStraightStraightPiratePiratePirate

I have a surface pro 1 and have no problems running 2 clients with it. I would suggest getting the keyboard and mouse as they make your life a whole lot easier.

I run EVE on a Dell Venue 8 Pro (Intel Atom, 8 inch screen) on low with no issue at all. I don't do much on it, set skill queue, move a ship, but it runs fine for that. I can't imagine a Surface Pro having a problem.

Though as others mentioned, touch is useless, make sure you have a keyboard and mouse.

Buying hardware from Microsoft is akin to using sandpaper to wipe your ass.

Just a warning.

I've heard good things about the Surface. My father owns one and its been rock solid for 2 years now. How come you don't like Microsoft hardware? (I've never owned an Xbox).

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think Ill give this a go :D
