Not that, actually.

Sorry, I used your quote before you edited it Shocked

That's fine, I just don't want more people quoting me on it.

It's a good idea. Those of you that don't like it, have no good reason for it.

I do not support name changing in any way shape or form (except in the case of newbies who have just started out and want to edit a typo or something).

For me, it boils down to this; being able to immediately recognize a person based on their name is the very essence of "reputation." Taking away from that recognizability pretty much means that the concept of "reputation" is moot (IMO).

Now... you can certainly add a list to a person's character sheet with all the names he/she has used... but that will easily become tedious (and be largely unused) if you have to check the bio of each and every person that enters a system to "see who they are."

See my previous post.

I want to be able to recognize players by their name, good and bad, not have to spend so long looking up what they may have previously been called, by which time I may be dead.

it is not required to use the serch function to be on the forums. you should as a player try to help others when the ask a question or have a concern. instead people like you continue to troll-comment people because you can contribute nothing else. its sad really.

if you buy a char its not your rep. and the things that were done by that chat prior you did not do. so you shouldnt inherit the name or problems that come with it. name change is a very good idea

But you'll take the time to look up corp history? Get an API key and use the notes tab? Or are you too lazy to do that too?

No sir, if it is a name I recognize as hostile, I do not want to spend time looking up the corp history or getting the API key, I just want to kill him or die trying.

My response is that when you buy a character you are also buying his/her reputation. It's a part of the "price" of being able to buy that wanted functionality instead of developing it on your own character... for better or worse.

I would say that corporation matters less than someone's name. There is a guy in the FW warzone who is infamous for AWOXing the militias he joins... his corporation is always different but his name is well known and has become synonymous with "kill on sight."
And besides... corporate applications are a more protracted process that you can take your time with... versus identifying a possible threat when you are out and about in a system.

If someone's a possible threat, then set personal standings. Not only will you be able to identify that they're threats instantly, but you'll also have them right in your contact list so you can see when their name changes.

In fact I'd like to add a request: if CCP ever implements this, also have notifications be sent when players on your contact list have a name change. So for example if you have me on your contacts with, I don't know, terrible standing, you'll be sent a notification as soon as I change my name with what I changed it to.

Will CCP ever allow you to change the name of a character for the price of a PLEX or two? Why haven't they already allowed this...what are their concerns?

I assume they don't want people to continuously change their names in an attempt to avoid accountability in numerous matters; in which case, they could limit name changing to once a year or once every six months. In addition, as has been proposed by others in the past, they could do something similar to an employment history for the character's past names in order to keep track of a character's history.

I mean, they fully support the purchasing of characters...it would be nice to be able to name a purchased character something that suits you.

I would greatly appreciate the thoughts of others on the matter, as well as any further insight into why such a system has not already been implemented

That's probably why they are considering it!

"We have actually looked into this, but haven't decided anything yet."
Translation: Stop asking. We're not wasting our time with this tripe. Next question.

This is an excellent example of realistic thinking based on years of experience in dealing with CCP

If this actually happens, expect an increase of threads by people demanding SP boosts or flat out purchases for PLEX until CCP caves. Dumb ideas are dumb no matter how many people suggest them.
