(unsure if repost)

Burial is a critically acclaimed British electronic artist for those who are unaware - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burial_(musician) < copy-paste

I was listening to http://youtu.be/M1bb2JakOmo?t=4m and immediately recognised the music sampled at 4:15, Red Glowing Dust from EVEs original soundtrack (and one of my favourite eve tracks in general) as heard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iKA2wJp97s .

Just found it kinda cool and interesting, wouldn't surprise me if he is or was an EVE player.

Hmm, I wonder he got permission to use the sample...
If not, CCP could claim breached copyright and Burial would have to pay. Or worse, take down the album.

Not CCPs property, I imagine it remains copyright of Jon hallur (or his label), and I would also imagine he would have obtained permission.

Ha, interesting. Likely didn't have permission but used it anyway. Probably a breach.

Also, I like the tune.

You mean CCP: Jón Hallur Haraldsson, who works for CCP and the audio tracks which are under the 'CCP Games' label?
That one??

uh-huh... -.-

On a side note, ewww that's terrible P
the things they call music these days Roll

I don't think CCP will do anything about it though, it's just three keys of a synth. Just really lazy to not even bother to reproduce it himself, but just slap it right in from a lossy compression format and all. That's not very professional.

I'm in it for the money

Pretty nice track actually. Reminds me of Michael Cretu's early work on Enigma and Trance Atlantic Air Waves.

Suuuure...

Here's your request:
"Jón: Funny story, I was visiting CCP with a class from school back in March 2000, and in the tour we got, Reynir (Creative Director) pointed to a room and said that this was where the music and sound guy was supposed to sit. I asked who they got, and they said the job was up for grabs. So I applied, pointing them to my various mp3.com sites I had in those days and was hired two months later. At that time EVE was just beginning to go into full production mode."
Speaking of his job with CCP:
"Jón: I just go where the jobs takes me. I guess my job is a lot more technical than it used to be."
And then I remember comments back in the old forums by ISD's about his employment with CCP, but I don't want to search back there, you should be doing that, not me.

This thread went downhill quickly. *sigh*
Considering the music was written commissioned by CCP, the copyright is (in all probability) owned by CCP.
Jon does however retain the rights to the score and as such can protect his IP.

That said, asking for permission is something a lot of producers neglect because the odds of getting caught are fairly small.
I tried contacting CCP through various channels before making my remix of Below The Asteroids public because I don't feel like going to court with a company that could potentially bury me in copyright claims.
I got no response. None. At all. So I just made it public and made sure I didn't step on any toes by 1) not selling the remix, 2) crediting the original production and 3) promoting the game with whatever means I could.
So far, I haven't been called to court and CCP hasn't responded in any way, so I guess they don't hate it. Lol

The same problem arises with sampling.
Let's say I sample a typical 808 drum and snare for one of my productions that I want to sell later on.
I know where I downloaded the samples, but I don't know who made the original sample.
I can then contact the website where I downloaded the sample and ask if they know where it originated.
Two options: they don't know and I'm sh*t out of luck, or they know and I can contact the next party.
In case of option 1, I can go ahead and use the samples, but risk getting sued when the original owner finds out and wants to protect his IP.
Or option 2, I can keep contacting people to find out if I can use it or not.
This all takes a massive amount of time which could be better spent producing, so most of the time producers just don't bother unless it's a clearcut case.
The third option is to synthesize the sounds myself, which I usually do. It's more fun that way too. Blink

Other than that, Burial isn't my cup of tea personally.
It's not a bad production in any way, but it just doesn't do anything for me.
My comment also wasn't meant to derail an entire thread, but rather an observation.
I hate you all equally. Lol

Pretty sweet track. Burial makes some sweet music.

And listening to Red Glowing dust gave me a kick of nostalgia.

Regarding legal stuff. I think this is the closest answer: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=342730&find=unread
