So -- I remember some oldbros talking about mines at some point and I am wondering --

Why were they removed?

Does anyone have any horror stories pertaining to them?

I can see how they could have been abused, but seeing as they were gone when I joined, I
couldn't enjoy the pure horror of being blown to bits by Space-IEDs.

Thanks!

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.

I a "few" of those..... of what ive heard, they was loaded into missil launchers and deployed... then the damage got nerfed, then it got removed.... a pity... i would love dropping few thousand mines outside Jita tradehub Twisted

But since u mentioned IED bombs, on of my many lesser supported ideas, was kinda IED's.... pack a T1 hauler With explosives and suicidebomb other players... i belive that thread got locked Evil

Just keep in mind that the ones you buy don't actually do anything anymore.;) I think I may still have some blueprints (also useless) somewhere. Though they could have been removed from the game. In addition to Anaconda there were also Python mines, and perhaps one other? I can't remember for sure.

Anyhow, there were various reasons they removed them, and when they did nobody really complained about it. They were removed VERY early in Eve's lifespan and didn't actually exist for all that long in the first place.

They were the very first lag bombs in Eve, and after CCP corrected that problem, it was found that they were pretty useless for anything else. :P

You could deploy mines in Lo/Null sec then travel to hisec and get Concoded . If I remember they couldn't get around that so they removed them.

An entire grid of mines is why they got removed.

Was only one reason.

In the launcher changes of 2004 or so it was obvious they planned to phase them out. They were deployed with launchers, but since mines were the only charges that did not undergo the volume changes, they suddenly were only able to be used with siege launchers.

Though even before that, the lag bombs were a bigger issue. People would lay out HUGE minefields with the specific intent of causing that lag. The mines themselves did so little damage that there really wasn't much else to do with them.

I remember Mimes, they were great, always running into invisible walls and the like. On a related note, I think mines lagged the game to much, also if you would set mines in lowsec and someone got attacked by them, and you were in highsec, you would get concorded.

That and the trick where you laid a shitton of them in the exit lane of stations then went to low sec.
