Snakes or Nomads?

Hello.

I've been flying an Arty Hurricane around lately and having some fun doing so (It's basically an old Garmon fit). At any rate I can't seem to decide which is more beneficial for me implant-wise, Snakes or Nomads.

Snakes help with speed, of course, which allow for me to keep at range more efficiently and therefore stay engaged longer before needing to warp off. They also allow me to engage initially more easily by getting in range faster.

Nomads help with my agility, obviously, thereby allowing me to align and get up to warp speed faster which makes escaping combat when in a bind a bit more efficient. This also helps in traveling when jumping through a gate, right into a camp (low sec). I'm able to align and warp away better then without Nomads. They also aid in maintaining a low angular velocity while engaged in order to give my guns the best chance of hitting by being quick to turn and get up to speed.

Any thought on the matter? I'd appreciate and constructive opinions as I'm torn between the two and have been struggling on deciding which to use.

PS: Please do not use this post as a means to blast the Hurricane or the Arty Cane fit. The topic here is my search for advice in the matter of which implants would best serve this type of ship with this type of fit and the fly-stlye it demands.

Thank you.

In my (limited) experience, speed isn't useful without having agility to match it. If you're changing direction a lot (which you likely are), being able to do so more quickly will likely keep you moving faster on average than having a higher speed and lower agility. Plus, you get the benefits to align time, tighter orbits, etc.

I'd go with the Nomads.

Snakes. Agility is a pretty simple thing to look at. If you are travelling towards a destination and suddenly make a turn, a ship that has a fast agility can do so quickly, and will still have high speed. Nomads help with your agility rate yes, however snakes also do the same. Snakes will help you achive a faster rate of acceleration (you have a higher top speed, with no net increase in your agility modifier) and allow you to travel these shorter distances in a faster time than you would with nomads (Because your base speed is higher) Also consider that nomads are only Low grade, while you can have an even larger bonus running High grade snakes. At the end of the day, when nanoing, Snakes are always superior. Anyone that suggests otherwise, has not done the math.

Even on a ship like a 100MN AB tengu, Snakes provide much more utility on the battlefield, even on a super slow turning hull where you would think LG Nomads would produce the most benifit.

I have flow with both, and have tried both. I always run with Edge implants, or Snakes. Never nomads for my PvP toons.

OFC, how else are you supposed to use strong crash / Strong boosters? If you get hit with a side effect, you pretty much can't fly. Nice thing about edge, is that you can rock those super OP bonuses with none of the downsides. IE. Strong drop tracking Pulse oracles, or Strong Crash cruise phoons.

Strong Blue XL ASB Sleip.

@OP: Slaves are amazing. If you are using snakes on a cane i'd recommend moving up to a tornado and pumping tracking into it instead of damage mods. Snakes and overload on an assault BC lets you zero your tracking and 1-shoota people. Gang bonuses make things a little silly.

Very interesting. I don't think many people have really considered this and are consequently calling for buffs to the Edge implants. The line between "OP," "useful," and "useless" in this game is largely a matter of perception.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I just got into boosters and they are woooonderful. Wait, that came out wrong...

On a side note my market tracker indicates very few edge implants out there with some not available at all.

Nomads are very underrated imo. Yes, speed is always a great thing to have. The trouble with snakes is that it can be quiet obvious that you have them. This can knock on to people then not taking fights with you. Nomads are a lot less obvious. One way to look at nomads is as a lag reduction implant, reducing the time from input to established action. Personally I prefer them to snakes for that reason.

The snakes can be useful in more situations than the nomads. The nomads are very good, but I will argue that the snakes are better. You can always improve your agility by fitting an inertia stabilizer or a couple of nanofibers. Istabs will make you easier to hit, though.
