Ever since I was a kid I've loved horror, sci fi and fantasy in all its incarnations. Started reading at a very early age and have been writing for most of my life. For the last decade or so my focus has been on movie scripts, something I find infinitely rewarding. I do it mostly for me, and that's been good enough. Been told I've got a fair bit of talent at it as well, but I have yet to make a significant profit from it... though I've recently taken on a literary agent, so we'll see if that helps me pierce the elusive veil into the insider's circle.

My most recent endeavor is a sci-fi feature length screenplay that's become, at it's heart of hearts, a sincere love letter to the EVE universe. I was very conscious NOT to crib obvious elements from CCP in creating my story as it's my hope that they will someday produce their own film set in their proprietary universe... this can't come soon enough, actually.

Without giving too many details away, here's the logline for the story:

"Decades after a mass exodus from a dying Earth, a beautiful and resourceful star pilot uncovers an incredible secret that could end the brutal galactic civil war which threatens to extinguish humanity forever. "

The cast of characters is muti-ethnic and range in ages from late teens to early 70's. There are no alien races, no overly fantastical elements at play. It's a story of two mighty factions locked in perpetual combat, each fighting for their own perceived concept of freedom and order, an epic fight for survival told from two different perspectives, each with their own moral shades of gray. They say the best science fiction is the kind that holds up a mirror to our own present society and extrapolates scenarios that we can all relate to, and that's heavily present in my script. I'm excited and enthusiastic about the possibilities (I envision it as a live action feature) and am hoping that with the current upswing in sci-fi presence at the cinema, we might be able to shop this thing around and gain some traction. It's very, very hard to crack into today's Hollywood due to it's rigid, profit driven corporate structure, but with a little luck and a lot of determination, it's certainly possible.

Nova Serine on the big screen? Be still, my beating heart.

That is great Nova! I'm very pleased to hear that.

Never stop believing... as a fellow author that is key. You can break through!

No, the key to anything is a persistent process of learning.
Believing is not a particularly good motivation. Knowing on the other hand...

By the way. Didn't CCP consider looking at those oneshots for CCP's interest an EVE-related TV series?

You might want to see if you can pitch it to that particular director who directed a film with Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington (I forgot the name of the film, Two Guns, or so). Unfortunately, I dont know if something will happen.

Although I think you should try to shorten the logline, it does say the goal and settings, so I think you should be fine after all.

I happen to do screenwriting too, hehe. No credits yet. Building the specs.

Remember that getting in contact with independent filmmaking outside of Hollywood is always a good idea, as well as finding an agent who can help you distribute it.

I'm certain CCP would think twice and consider helping screenwriters present their product and Intellectual Property for iskies and prawfitz the sake of EVE and help you because if you're all about EVE, then there should definately be an interest on their side - because (screen)writers are the ones who are the foundation of awesome stuff.

I'm somewhat also in the process of making an EVE'esque screenplay too as we all have to go original after all. I have to replan a few things since CCP likely wants a sort of Treatment/Scriptment as a speculative business proposal.

By the way, you might want to head over to INKTIP, where you can post the logline. Independent producers/agents can contact you. Remember to make it juicy for them.

However, remember too that independent producers are most likely your friends because you are likely to have more control over the content than just giving it away for sale to a random Hollywood dude. Also, don't underestimate animated features. :)

Just some food of thought.

edit:
I'm actually surprised why CCP hasn't been more involved in independent filmmaking and such, as well as broadening access to canon/noncanon EVE-related literature licensing and whatnots. Then again, that's just theorycrafting based on those I've spoken with and who've tried to bring some stuff.

Thanks for the input and well wishes, fellow capsuleers! Been away for a bit (such is life) but I've completed the feature length screenplay (comes in at just under 97 pages) and have been making regular tweaks here and there, pretty happy with the (near) final result. As part of the process I penciled in actor archetypes the likes of Morena Baccarin, Lance Henriksen, Charles Dance and Josh Duhamel as well as relative newcomers Kaya Scodelario, Michael Obiora and Anabelle Wallis and they actually all fit their respective characters amazingly well. While the EVE universe was always in the back of my mind as I worked on this story, the end result is a significant departure from CCP's intellectual product, though the spirit is definitely similar. No idea if this script will go anywhere (and yes, I'm familiar with and have used InkTip and Triggerstreet and others in the past) but it's been a joy to write and certainly has promise.

The saga continues...

Probably redundant to reiterate :D

After thinking it over, I really think you are better off with your plan of making it original. It raises your chances big time. You probably been through it already, but also see if you can bend the rules or restraints the EVE universe had. Should be interesting to bring in new creative concepts (especially ships-with-crew).

Okay, take care, good luck. And let us know if something happens!
