jEveAssets 2.8.3 Released

Changed:
-Better auto update code (update jupdate.jar and validate downloaded files)

Source:
-Deploy: Upload release automatic

Notes:
The new auto update code will only be used
when updating from 2.8.3 to any later version.
Updating to 2.8.3 will still use the old code.

So for a while now, 2.8.3 won't update my assets. Always gives error saying not enough permissions on API, but the APIs are set correctly.

You're young, you'll adjust. I'm old, I'll get used to it.

@350125GO
Add "Locations" to the API Key to fix it (It's used to get in-game names).
Your assets is still being updated, though, It's only the locations stuff that are missing (It's included in the assets task)

EDIT:
I have improved the error message for the next release, so it's clear what access mask is missing.

Is it possible to reset all the tracked information?

I tried removing the API's, deleting the old profile but all the information on the "Tracker" window ( and I assume on the others ) wont go away.

Yes, but, it's not an easy task:

Option 1:
Double click on each data point and select delete (if you got a lot of data points, this is a bad option)

Option 2:
Edit settings.xml
1) Close jEveAssets
2) Go to the settings directory (see the readme)
3) Open the data directory
4) Open settings.xml with notepad (or another plain text editor, that supports 8-UTF)
5) find the trackerdata tag
6) Delete the owners you want to reset
7) Save the file
8) Start jEveAssets

I hope this helps, if not, let me know what didn't work and I'll do my best to fix it :)

Happy to be of help...

It's not an easy task and it never will be, as It's on purpose it's a bit hard to reset the tracker, as people should never do it in error.
So, I'll happily provide support...

I am unable to edit the Tracker data (or delete it through the tracker interface).

I had issues with the API not updating some buy orders quick enough so I had a dip of escrow ISK and tried to manually fix it. Thought it was fine, logged off for the night. Next morning, nothing was changed and the tracker showed the original data that was wrong.

Do I need to edit the files instead of through the program?

Kronos 1.0.0 static data is now available (restart jEveAssets to update) .

This is the first static data update released via auto-update,
your feedback would be very much appreciated!

Me again Cool

I really like the new dialog showing which version you have, and which version you can update to.
Worked fine for both the jEveAssets update, as well as the static database update to Kronos 1.0.0

tl;dr Me happy! Lol

Thanks for providing a valuable EVE resource.

I was running ver 2.8.3. Started jeveassets.jar today for the first time in a couple of weeks. Just after the Loading CORE dialog, I received this error:

Auto update failed
Restart jEveAssets to try again...
OK

Downloaded version 2.84 and manually installed. Started jeveassets.jar. Just after the Loading CORE dialog, I got this error:

Auto update failed
Restart jEveAssets to try again...
OK

Tried installing and running ver 2.8.4 on a different computer with same results.

@Careby
I'm sorry you have run into this problem.
It probably fails to download the jupdate.jar (to update the data files).
I will release a bug fix version with the latest data ASAP, so you do not have to update anything.

There is a small chance that your firewall is blocking Java from downloading the update, I suggest, you disable you firewall and retry, just to be sure... Remember to re-enable the firewall after you're done!

Extra Info:
I should note that it tries to download jupdate.jar 10 times, before giving up, so, unless it's your firewall, the connection must be really bad between you and the server that host the update files (located in Denmark). That is the same server that host the zip download. When updating the download is validated AKA can not be corrupted - however, when downloading the zip file, there is no validation (standard HTTP download), making corruption more likely...

I'm getting an issue with 2.8.5 as of a couple of days ago. Various keys are not decoding in the asset view, notably including item name. Instead of names, I'm seeing what are probably item IDs, prefixed with !. Container names also are not decoding.

ETA: Also, in the tracker view, it shows zero assets value.

@Hespire Malneant
Thank you very much for your bug report.

1) Item names: If you could post some of the numbers after the ! (They are are type IDs). I'll look into it ASAP.

2) Tracker view: That is most likely a price data problem, try changing the it, to see if that fixes it:
Options > Options.. > Price Data > Price Source
...Just change it to something else and update prices.
