If i put sentry drones from a domi to assist a fast locking frigate, will the drones instantly attack along with the frigate or do the drones have locking times?

They will attack the same as if you had locked a target and ordered them to fire.

That awkward moment at the Gentlemen's Club when you see your sister on the stage....and you're not sure where to put the money....

I believe drones only fire at the end of their duration cycle.

So domi tells drones to assist, frigate locks target, then the 4 count on the drones duration cycle starts, then at the end of 4 seconds the drones fire.

So the actual shooting is not instant.

It isn't quite instant. But for all intents and purposes they fire with the frig. This is/was the heart and soul of what made the slow cats/ domi fleets so powerful in terms of alpha. Remote sebos to the drone anchor and all that.

This isn't exactly on topic, but I have never had any luck using sentry drones with my Orca. I seem to end up rescuing the drones rather than doing any damage.

I realize that target range makes a big difference. When the bad guys are close, traverse speed is a major issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this better? I mine in Hi Sec and the drones would be used against player ships. Can sentry drones be effective against rats in this scenario.

Drop the drones 50km away from your ship.

I'll try that, but after they became more of a hazard than an asset, I have been a little reluctant to deploy them. Sentry drones aren't as expensive as Orcas, but I still have problems wasting my drones. They are kind of like people.

Set them up to focus fire and protect you. Also if you stagger how far apart you drop them, rats that attack 1 drone are still miles away from the rest. Imagine you dropped 1 on 5/6 axis around you every 20km. Thats 28km from each other up to 40km... perfect range to protect each other.

Hi-sec rats are frigates. Use Hobgoblins.

When using drone assist you have to make sure which part of system you are in. As far as I know it does not work in low security space (crimewatch issue).

Also drones have locktime delay. They take some time to lock to a new target. so they will not fire the moment the fast locking ship does. But they will adopt that target and fire at it as soon as possible.
