Why do wormholes get to have all the fun?

I say all systems throughout New Eden deserve some degree of Magic Space Weather. They don't have to be the system-wide buffs/debuffs wormholes provide, they could simply be random celestial events that occur every once so often in a system.

Perhaps a solar flare and accompanying Coronal Mass Ejection?

A strong burst of solar wind maybe?

A proton storm?

What if the system passes through an interstellar cloud?

Perhaps they could damage ships, help or harm shields, or even simply apply a tint to the lenses of your camera drones.

Just a nifty idea I thought might increase immersion or interest somebody.

Good idea but I thought servers were struggling as it is...

Is that my two cents or yours?

I've always been a fan of "space weather" in some form or another... but as I've played EVE over the years I've also become leery about making things TOO arbitrary.

So two ideas come to mind...

1. Localized weather: getting too close to a star would result in continuous damage across all damage types... by percentage rather than sets values so one ship class/type will not be favored over another (but certain tactics and fits would).

2. I'm more hesitant of this one... but I've somewhat liked wormhole system buffs/debuffs... except in k-space it would be a little more random and short lived (hours long maybe?)... and the numbers would be small not to make anything overpowered or crippled (2 to 5% or less)... just enough to give a slight edge or disadvantage.

Many of the stars in New Eden are beyond 25 million years old... Would be cool if one would go supernova or become a black hole...

Well I don't want to spoil anything but 25 million years is just another day at the office or a star. If you get close to 10 billion year you might witness a nova.

But don't disappapointed most of the 'brown dwarf stars' wont go boom and just bloom a little and become even smaller brown dwarfs.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

If we wanted to get really technical, stars that go supernova live fast and die young. If a star lives to be 10 billion years old, it won't go supernova, but instead condense down like you said. Supernovas are all very young stars, in comparison to our own sun.

That being said, wormholes get space weather from unrealistic scenarios. I don't see why we couldn't apply that elsewhere.

I enjoy the idea of localized weather. I would prefer for there to be places other than near the sun for effects to occur though.

I never ruled out the idea of buffs/debuffs in k-space, but I do believe they shouldn't be of the same magnitude or of the same type as Wormholes.
