Even in a hypothetical world where ship balance was 100% perfect for all non-tournament activities, some ships would still be more suited to the tournament environment than others.
Bonused sentry drones are just about the perfect weapon for a 125km radius arena and the MJUs would have magnified the effectiveness of Ishtars if we had left their point costs alone.

We never make ship balance changes for the tournament context, and tournament rule changes do not have any direct implications for ship balance in non-tournament enviroments.

I'm not saying that Ishtars are perfectly balanced, but good arguments about general ship balance can't be made from looking at tournament performance.

Fair enough.

Will anymore ship balancing be done between now any the turny? Specifically T3's, Recons, and stealth bombers. If so, are these point costs subject to changing?

Also, what happens when a player is pointed the wrong way when a Mobile or micro jump goes off and it shoots them out side of the 125km arena. Is considered leaving the arena and they will be destroyed? I only mention this because bumping could become a very viable tactic if you see someone activating a micro jump to try and get them to shoot out of the arena.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that yes, going outside the arena is considered leaving the arena.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Jumping out of the arena with an MJD is so last year.

We need a proper way to spawn the tournament area with those MJU in place. Or locked test systems where people can set up the arena. If not we will end up with many matches ending due to boundary violations.

How about creating a reverse POS force field around the arena? So, instead of keeping things out, it keeps things in?

Also, the field could contract during the match, so that we don't have those boring situations where someone just zooms around the arena until the 10 minute timer expires.

The contraction does not need to be linear, so it can start out slow and speed up as the match progresses - or it can be based on the number of ships remaining on any one team (to deal with the situation where one team only has a single interceptor remaining which is zooming around and evading a bunch of slower ships of the opposite team).

No T2 haulers. :(

And recons are still 14? They are not heavily used... I guess they are high points because they are low DPS and make for less-thank exciting matches?

well unless you want too see a fuckton of rooks .. i wouldn't complain about it

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

what about T2 industrials? you know.. those with the fleet hangars ;)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

jesus christ you know balance is out of whack when domis and ishtars have specific point costs

how bad is the ccp balance team for real

i mean specific ships have always been strong in specific areas but it takes a special kind of "balance" to force this kind of rubbish

Not sure I like the anchored MJD's around the arena... to me, whether or not someone uses a MJD should be a strategic fitting decision, costing a fitting slot, not just available to all. It just seems kind of gimmicky to have them available around the arena. On the other hand, they could change how a fight is going drastically and dramatically...

Will the teams have access to Duality like last year? Pretty please make this so! Duality ROCKS!!

Also, if a pilot was a member of your alliance at the deadline, then left the alliance after the deadline and came back, are they still eligible to be in the arena? (I asked this on the other AT blog comments thread and never got an answer, would like clarification on this).

Liking the points changes!!

Going to be a fun tournament!

You could have saved yourself the effort of posting by just reading the dev posts before commenting. The thread is barely 2 pages long, and there are only 5 dev posts: less than two minutes of reading time.

Ewar t1 frigs cost 2 times more than combat t1 frigs, eafs cost 3 times more, what kind of conclusions will you draw based on these costs?

That battleships are much better than industrials for tournament environment, obviously. In fact, trying to extend this logic to TQ is a logical fallacy :-)

Is there any way that we may see a prize structure alteration?

The current state AT is that only the top two alliances reap any meaningful reward. This leads to a massive isk incentive for the top teams (PL, Hydra, etc) to perennially do well while not creating much of an incentive for other alliances to succeed despite the likelihood of them not beating these "elite" teams. Considering the amount of work involved with making the tournament happen on the players end with bank rolling the ships, practices, stress, etc. more than just the top two teams should get rewarded. It would be best for CCP to create incentives for other teams to invest the time to do well in the tournament.

CCP has a great opportunity to really inspire interest in the tournament by creating incentives such as:
Create a "bounty" for winning a match of plex. The farther you progress the more isk you get.
Giving the teams cosmetic items such as Tournament only T-shirts, a couple hundred runs of a tournament only ship skin BPC, etc. we can sell for isk.
Giving much smaller quantities of the AT ships to the 3rd and 4th place teams.

And so on. The biggest issue with the tournament is that only the top two teams are truely rewarded with trillions of isk in ships. It's time to allow other teams a chance to recoup their time and effort in isk.

To echo what Aliventi said, competing in the alliance tournament is an amazing experience and the actual format is a great deal of fun for those that enjoy small gang PVP. However it represents a great deal of isk, time and effort sunk into it for those that are competing and even more so for the ones running the teams. Its pretty easy to burn out after 4 months of constant practices, theory crafting, setting up ships and generally trying to make it all work together.

This is really a sentiment we're hearing echoed all over from several different times, including members of hydra and PL's tournament teams. More prizes means more people willing to throw out the tens of billions of isk necessary to make the runs, to put forward the hundreds if not thousands of hours in managing and practicing and an overall healthier tournament environment. This means a better show, which means more publicity in CCP's case. Basically, Everyone wins.
