Greetings Star Citizens,

I'm a HumbleBundle buyer who wanted to give EVE a try. After a few hours of slogging through the tutorial and understanding ~5% of what was said to me (I can, at least, match icon buttons pretty well, even if the deeper concepts are completely beyond me at the moment). I decided to try out the exploration career path, and died when I encountered two pirates towards the end of... Rusho... Grek... I can't remember her name... the "Sisters of Eve" plot arc. And then I promptly lost my ship and apparently all of my modules.

So, my question is, where the hell did all of my gear go? I lost my initial tutorial gear and have no cash to buy new ones. I also have no idea how to re-obtain the infinite "velator" ships, because it's never explained in the tutorial, and come on--newbie navigation is like untangling quantum mechanics.

Any help, especially cogent and lucidly explained help, would be very advised. If I have to march back through the entire tutorial to get those basic modules and exploration mods back, I think I'll just go back to reading about EVE on the blogs.

Thanks!

You get a new velator when you dock at a station in your capsule, where you have no other ships.

Your gear is in the wreck of your ship, of which it is likely some has been destroyed. You can return to your ship wreck if you know where it is, sometimes you need to bookmark a wreck to get back to it. If your wreck is still there, you can get any surviving items back, unless someone has taken them, by some random chance all your gear in your ship was destroyed or someone has blown up your wreck whith everything inside it.

Civilian mods can also be bought on the market, I think they are quite cheap.

As was previously mentioned, you can loot your wreck to recover a good amount of items. The ship on the other hand will automatically appear in your ship hangar when you dock up with only a capsule.

Have you read the New Player FAQ here: http://web.ccpgamescdn.com/communityassets/pdf/EVE-Online-New-Pilot-FAQ.pdf I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the replies. I went back in, tried to find my stuff, couldn't locate the wreck, went to the market, spend 100,000+ "isk" and can't find the items I bought (or bid on? It's not clear to a new player at all), spent ten minutes fruitlessly reading other forum posts with similar problems, and then decided, "Nevermind."

It's a fascinating game. It isn't for me.

You can check your Assets on the Neocom bar on the left, or use the default shortcut of ALT-T

Items you buy are purchased at the station where they were. You may not be at the correct station.

The reason you cant find the items is most likely because your way off in some relatively backwater region of space. The main trade hub for EvE is Jita. The vast majority of the trade in EvE is player driven. Yes, that means that a player produced / looted from an NPC most of what you buy. As a result, the market is not "standard" across the game map. Players have to "seed" the market in the various areas by carrying those items out via freighters. It is all part of what makes EvE so unique.

If your looking to replace your ship. Open your galaxy map. Search for Jita. Set that as your destination and fly there. Once in Jita go to the Station on Planet 4 Moon 4 (there are two I believe, but only one is the main trade hub) and you will find anything you could possible want to buy (especially as a new player).

I would not give up so quick it is not an easy game to learn solo chat with people in the new player channels, the help channels even in local most people are pretty nice to new players.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Every item in EVE is a consumable. Ammunition, implants, guns, spaceships, even the massive Titans.

Nothing moves by magic in Eve. You may have purchased items that were located in a different station. When you're purchasing something, you will generally want to only buy items that are located in your station or system - otherwise you will have to go fetch them. If you do buy something remotely, you can find out where it was by checking your assets tab, as others have noted.

First step: do a complete set of career tutorials (yes, all of them).

[Edit] And read everything that's presented to you.

It is recommended that you do all the tutorials available to you. This will get you a lot of skill books and free modules/ships that you can sell for some good isk when you're starting

Ships don't "respawn" after you lose them, the only exception is the rookie ship (velator in you case), but 50% of what you had equipped and in your cargo hold will be left in a wreck where the ship was destroyed

ALT+T will be your friend forever, that will show you in which stations you have items and you can warp directly to them from this menu, or set them as destination if they are in another system.

When you buy items in the market you should always check where they are. There is a column that indicates if the item is in your station, solar system or how many jumps it is from where you are.

Don't drop the game before you had the time to learn it, but it definitely won't be for you if you're too lazy for it.

One thing to note: if you buy something off the market, it doesn't get delivered to you automatically from a different station, but will be waiting for you if you dock up in the system where it was for sale. If you open the Assets window (the safe icon on the left of the screen), you'll get a list of stations where your property is located.

No worries, EVE isn't for everybody.

If you do like the general feel of the game and all the cool stories and consider giving it a second try, remember that thousands of people already play the game, so it's doable: I assure you we're certainly not all geniuses. Lol

I did make a point of (straining) to read everything presented to me. Unfortunately, outright reading retention, with so little applicable practice, has a retention rate of less than 10% at the best of times. It's actually impressive that there are so many people playing and enjoying the game; I consider myself fairly open minded to new game playing experiences, and this has been one of the roughest I've ever sat through, outside of some of the Fantasy Flight board game tutorials.

I'm sure it's great, and I'm sure everyone will attest to how meaningful and engaging the content behind that knurlish tutorial is/are (it's hard to get through all of the career tutorials, as one poster recommended when you're KILLED trying to get through them and have no idea how to move past that point, because you haven't gotten that far in the tutorial, for example).

As I said, it's not for me. I appreciate the outpouring of encouragement and enthusiasm, but my time is better spent elsewhere.

Probably didn't end up in a med-clone. NPCs don't pod.
