Missions get more challenging as they go up in level. Boredom soon disapates as you are being warp scrambled by NPCs.

Quote:
If you don't want to run Lower level missions pay 400 mill and run the data center missions for your faction (Train Social to V first for maximum benefit) this will give you 5.0+ factional standings for the faction you ran them and you will have access to EVERY level 4 agent who is a member of that respective faction.

Training social skills (as mentioned above) also reduces the grind. Connections and Social are the main ones. Social increases the standing gain each time you get a standing tick and Connections increases your effective standing.

Success in solo and small gang pvp comes more from player knowledge and experience, rather than from character skills. Higher skills are only required for more success with a wider variety of better tools. You won't have any success with any tools without some knowledge and experience.

So, what people are trying to say is that if you don't just go out there and try stuff--and fail, and learn from your failures--you'll never be competitive, even with very high character skills. You, the player, need to skill up along with your character.

This means researching cheap fits, fitting them, figuring out where and how to find people to shoot, and then going out there and shooting them--right now. You'll learn as much from your cheap fits and low skills as you would from expensive fits and higher skills. If you start now, you'll know what to do with better skills and ships when they become available to you.

Franmly, I hate missions.

From where I sit they break the sandbox. How many damsels are there in distress all of the time? How many diplomats can I intercept, pilgrims to release and so on?

If I had my way I would do away with them altogether. Not only are they dull (even Level 4 ones when one is sitting in a Drake and knowing what to do) but they don't fit in.

I would raher make one tenth of the ISK, as is what I do, in the marketplace competing with the other players.

I think that missioning and easy pirates (aka rats) have no place in this game. Your view may vary on this one.

Just do something else. Anything else.

Feel free to make a thread elaborating on those ideas as well as suggestions for alternatives.

Until then, quit your crying.

er, no-one's crying on my side of the monitors

I just gave my opinion as I why I think missioning isn't 'right' in my view of the game and the sandbox and I am encouraging the new lad to try an activity which is more interactive, which would even include mining.

So, how that equates to crying is something which is clearly beyond me.

very true!! theres lots to do, hop in to a scan ship and see what you can find.. or give industry a try with blue prints mining and testing your hand in the markets. . not sure if someones mentioned it already but you could aslo try the SOE Epic ark.. its a level one story line that takes you across much New Eden. as well as gives you a significant faction boost.

Stop waiting for skills to PVP. Grab a frigate, explore lowsec. Make friends there. Get involved in what player corps do.

Every once in a while I hear of a new player taking a frigate out to pirate space null and working his way into a T2 cruiser/faction BS without ever leaving.

Be that guy. Just pick a pirate faction you like, find one of their agent stations in the agent finder, move your medical clone out there and go for it.

Not strong enough for PvP yet

If you train Connections 3, you have to do one level 1 mission to unlock level 2.

If you get 1.0 faction standing, you never have to do level 1 missions again for corps in that faction.

If you don't enjoy doing missions, then why are you doing them? There are other ways to earn ISK in EVE.

The most common mistake new players make - including myself at the time - is not understanding that ISK making activities in EVE are meant a means to something greater.

Define your goals in the game. Do you want to dominate a certain market? Do you want to be a feared PVPer? Do you want to engage in industrial projects with like-minded players?

In EVE, most of the PVE activities are rather boring. At least eventually. You will quit the game if you do not find a niche beyond simply grinding out ISK for the sake of it.

Once you create goals, suddenly the otherwise boring PVE activities become more bearable as the end justifies the means. They can even be enjoyable if you are into roleplay and see it as one of many steps in your epic journey through New Eden.

It's just more financially viable for me.

If you're bored with missions, don't run missions. You're not going to find level 2 missions any more fun.

And there's no such thing as "not strong enough for PvP yet" - that's all in your head.

It's pretty easy to get stuck in a loop of, "I'll start PvPing just as soon as I have...."

Given the number of skills in the game and the real-time training system, you can be thinking of just-one-more-thing you need for years.

If you can fit a warp disruptor and a propulsion mod, you're pretty much ready. Yes, you are going to die a lot. No, it doesn't have to be expensive.

Also, it's EXTREMELY difficult to get podkilled outside of nullsec. When it becomes obvious that your ship is going to be exploding, pick a distant celestial object and start spamming the warp-to button. Continue clicking until your ship pops, and your pod enters warp. They'll never have a chance to lock your pod.

"Help, I'm bored with missions!"

No actually. Missions never get any more challenging.

The only challenge to be found doing missions is to stay awake.
