Win 8.1 on an SSD is the fastest OS I've used in a long time.

I don't use apps/metro interface.

Windows-key is my best friend. So much easier and quicker to find to load diagnostic tools. I liked Win7, but cringe whenever I have to work on a win7 box these days. Seems so clunky and old fashioned.

We've brought about 50% of our users over and continue to upgrade at any opportunity.

No problems at all.

Win8 is the best windows ever made, if you ignore the metro/tile/startmenu garbage MS insists on shoving down our throats. Fortunately with 8.1 and the updates that's a little easier to do.

Windows 7 is the new Windows XP where Windows 8 is the new Windows Vista.

Like with XP, I'll be using Windows 7 until the bloody end.

Been using Eve on windows 8.1 since 8.1 came out. Zero problems. It's my favorite OS.

actually they broken search functionality in 8.1.
In 8 you could press "Win" and then "device ma" and get link to Device Management.
In 8.1 you get nice links to some garbage collectors of internet like msn.com and other.... And you actually can't find anything oon your own PC.....

Other things i'm perfectly Ok with

You're doing it wrong. This is why you don't give the keys to the nice car to children.

What company is that? Do you know Windows 7 is reliable more so than 8, today, right now. I run Win7x64Ultimate with the best results, on a hard disc. Enough problems with 8 to throw it out the Window, literally.

I love Windows 7 64 bit. Its the best OS since XP.

I am known as a gadget and software boffin (not my words) and often people bring me their broken tech items and I repair them most of the time.

Usually it is some malware from fapfapfap.com that little timmy has put on the family PC. Or Torrent Files that were not what they said they were lol. Easy stuff.

Until 3 days ago a laptop came in..... Windows 8. OK, i thought, where is the start button? And then me and the machine had a duel for administrator privileges that lasted an hour. I then rang my mate up and said " i'm going to wipe it and put Win7 on it.!"

I guess 8 is probably nice on touchscreen devices but for most of us with Mice and Keyboards... I would leave it well alone.

I certainly would never entertain EVE on it either.

I have tin foil hat trained to 5.

Use 8.1 with StartIsBack unless you have some horribly designed application that won't run in 8.1

The edge is REALLY hard to see at times but it DOES exist and in this case we were looking at a situation where a new feature created for all of our customers was being virtually curbstomped by five of them

Eve may work on 8.1 but the OS might not.

I had experienced the 8.1 bug that would give you a black screen and flickering mouse. Somehow my laptop started in "Refresh" mode, after hours of goggling, and finding out its all because of a MS update. A lot of people experienced that and some solution worked for some and not for others.

Now I stick with 8, and ignore most updates, I have it setup in desktop mode with the Shell Start button, and program that lets me have multiple desktops (like I can on Linux) because MS can't make a very useful feature that Linux and all smartphones have.

I wanted windows 7, but the specs I was looking for when it came were only available with windows 8, and amazon couldn't/wouldn't change the OS ( I asked them).

If it works, don't update to 8.1, the start button is a joke, or a bad troll from MS.

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with Eve on Windows 8.1? My laptop has Windows 8, and has been asking me to upgrade to 8.1 for ages now. The only real reason I haven't is in case it messes with Eve. Any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

I would highly recommend going to 8.1 and Install all updates for it, its much much better than original windows 8
Do remember to back up any sensitive files before doing any major changes to your computer. Its always best to be safe!
I am currently running eve on 8.1 using an older sabertooth x58 mobo (not designed for win8) and eve runs just fine, and not running into any issues. Meaning.. If your computer came with 8 then it should not run into any issues so definably do the upgrade. If you do happen to run into an issue, pm me and I might be able to walk u through it.

Whilst Win8 is pathetic and annoying and frustrating ... the only issue I have had with EVE is a regular "Windows is out of memory message" even though I have 8Gb of ram.

Had the same issue it had something to do with the registry settings Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200. Went into the registry and and made a few edits to it and now its all good. Also downloaded the most recent drivers for the E2200 that came out not to long ago. My comp has been running smooth ever since.

You're an idiot.

Windows 8 is as good, if not better than windows 7 in terms of its UI.

Your unprovoked hostility aside, I do enjoy the manner of the delivery here where you make a claim without any support to it whatsoever except your own subjective opinion. Meanwhile, from an educated opinion of someone who doesn't call people whose opinion he doesn't like an 'idiot' as the basis for their entire argument...

I haven't had any problems with Eve (or gaming in general) on windows 8 or 8.1 so far.

Trying to do anything other that web browsing (with chrome) or playing games can be frustrating, but I use Linux for that stuff anyway.

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

probably more likely because there is no freackign reason to anyone ever use windows 8 over 7.

When people complain about windows 8, A good majority of the time they're complaining about the metro UI, Which is really for the most part optional.

... and the fact that it defaults to downloading fullscreen apps for skype etc even if you have three 30" monitors

- or the counter intuitive way it handles multiple screens

... and the whole closing apps by swiping down and switching by swiping left right is just dumb with a mouse

- or the lack of any indication how many apps are actually still running

- and the way it tries to trick people into logging in with a microsoft account which plays havoc on business lans especially running samba shares

- and the way there is no easy way to tell what desktop programs have been installed on an unfamiliar PC

- the extra mouse clicks to do simple tasks

- defaulting to apps rather than installed full feature desktop versions when opening documents

- a total stuff up with wireless networking where WIN8 cannot communicate with many dualband wireless routers at all

The list goes on.

I work in IT. Most support people hate it. Of course most sales people (cos its all they can get to sell) will tell you its great.

I work in IT. No not support, Enterprise storage, I love 8.1.

My gaming rig is 8.1 and with Steam Streaming i can play EVE seemlessly at full FPS on my 1g home network on all my linux systems.

Zero driver issues, zero multiple monitor issues, 0 issues. /shrug

No, you are an idiot. W8 UI is garbage, and is designed for people without much of a brain.
