Better Drone Boat

I want to see a battleship that either can deploy more drones per BS level or gets a role bonus to fitting Drone Control Units. Would be nice to see the Gallente getting something a little special over the other races in terms of drones.

Wouldn't this simply make all other drone boats obsolete?

Well using the Drone Control Unit method would take away from high slot weapons, so they lose weapon DPS in exchange for Drone DPS.

Currently Missile/Gun battleships can stack weapon upgrades and rigs all to the same weapon system and get decent DPS increases, whereas current drone boats get a portion of the DPS from weapons(though significantly less than drone DPS). Buffing your weapons on a Drone boat leads to very little increase, and drone damage modules get less efficient return than other Battleships get form weapon damage modules.

I simply would like to see more drones over weapon slots.

Why? What purpose does this serve?


Well, lets make a list:

  • Machariel for projectiles
  • Vindicator for hybrids
  • Nightmare for lasers


There are two glaring omissions in that list, namely missiles and drones masterpieces. The Rattlesnake tries to be both, but without good missile and drone skills it will suffer after Kronos. And even then, its a mix, not a pure drone or missile boat.

So the purpose should be blindingly obvious.

If I am not mistaken drones are taking a DPS hit in next update anyway so the Dominix will be even farther behind.

I would also like to point out that there is another battleship with drone bonuses mirroring the Dominix in the Amarr arsenal.
I would like to see a Gallente battleship that uses drones as a primary weapon system and does more than the other races with them.

Essentially but not limited edition and in the battleship family as if any ship could have the resources for more drones it would be the larger ones.

I don't know the fit but do remember aguy who I used to be in a corp with ditched all turrets on his domi for drone boosting mods as they were far more effective on a sentry domi. I also believe it is fairly common to fit neuts ot remote armour reps on the turret slots of a drone boat to stop enemy reps, fix drones etc. The turrets become fairly irrelevant on a drone boat with high drone skills

No, ~1500 dps at 50km from a BS using sentries is hilarious nonsense, and anyone even bringing it up or even defending it obviously lacks any sort of decent reasoning or understanding of balance.

what i wouldn't mind seeing is basically a mini carrier .. a slightly tankier chunkier battleship hull that uses fighters..
maybe a new gallente navy battleship .. it sacrifices multiple slots too retain a battleship mass and extra armour and hull plating and the fighter launch runway and extended dronebay

Gallente Battleship Bonus:
5km drone control range per level
5% bonus to Drone optimal range and tracking speed per level

Role bonus:
uses fighters only
Can deploy 2 additional Fighters

Slot layout: 3H, 4M, 7L; 0 turrets, 0 launchers
Fittings: 9000 PWG, 620 CPU
Defense (shields / armor / hull) : 8500 / 15000 / 26000
Capacitor (amount / recharge / cap per second) : 5350 / 1154000ms / 4.59
Mobility (max velocity / agility / mass / align time): 80 / .140 / 16530000 / 30s ish would make sense
Drones (bandwidth / bay): 175 / 70000
Targeting (max targeting range / Scan Resolution / Max Locked targets): 85km / 80 / 7
Sensor strength: 35
Signature radius: 850

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

OP didn't mention pirate ships...just BS ( I threw ishtar in as another option). I have a friend who loves his gila as a missile/drone cross for another cruiser option

Pirate battleships dont have to cover everything ever.
we have bloods for neut damage, does that mean we need ECM pirates too? no. its a dumb idea to make ships for the sake of making ships. They barely fit the mordus in without making them look overpowered.

the Domi and ishtar are as good as drone boats are going to get for a while. Perhaps when theres another round of powercreep.

You can put guns on a Dominix? Huh. I've always had much better uses for the high slots.

RR/NN Domi is my favorite Domi. (For PvP at least) This is even more true after they lost their bonus to hybrid damage.

As fun as something like that would be, CCP already dislikes drones because they make the servers unhappy. So increasing the number of them is not something they'd be interested in.
