POS mechanics question

If I am currently outside of a POS's shields, where I get targeted and engaged - and then fly into the shields, are the attackers able to continue targeting and engaging, or do the shields break the target lock?

the shields will break the lock, as something inside the shields cannot target or be targetted by anything outside the shield.

Note things like drones and FoF missiles which do not require a ship to have an active lock will also stop damaging you (it will break the drone's locks as well).

Note missiles fired prior to entering force field will follow you in unless that was changed.
