For the longest time, our 3rd party partners have sold EVE Time Codes to allow you to subscribe to EVE. Over time, however, they have become increasingly supplanted by PLEX. In order to adapt to this change, we are moving away from ETC to new PLEX Activation Codes. CCP Spitfire describes what this change means in his new dev blog.

Dear CCP Eterne If CCP thank to your company poor choices i will be closing 3 accounts and recommending to other to do the same thing and start boycotting your company until you start making choices that are in favor of the community.

Gtc for 60 days cost me $35 because i could buy from.any site. Now it will cost me £30 which is about $50 . Unless we can buy at dollar cost still if not then Guess this now makes it impossible for me to continue to keep subbing

Um, why aren't you just buying a subscription from CCP? You can get 1 month for £9.99 last I looked.

I have a friend of mine who currently buys bundles of printed ETCs for a whole year in a General Store for ~100E (he doesn't want to buy online). This way he could just validate once and get a year of subscribtion.

With the new system, does that mean that he will have to type code, then redeem plexes, then log and activate each PLEX separately to extend up to a year ? Sound not practical.

Another worry is regarding PLEX prices that are more expensive (~ 3 - 5E / ticket) than ETCs, it may align eventually ...

"The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) on PLEX Activation Codes is going to be the same as the SRP for PLEX offered directly by CCP — so a 2-PLEX Code will cost you the same as a an old 60-day ETC would have. "

This statement contradicts itself.

While I never really understood the difference in prices, nothing is prohibiting CCP from charging different rates on different platforms. Just as there is nothing stopping you from just buying your codes or PLEX or gametime from the cheapest legal source.

ccp is paying the VAT, your plex reseller is not

european VAT is why dollar prices generally equal euro prices despite the difference in buying power of the respective currencies - it's about equal to the difference so companies just call it a day

ccp has to collect the VAT for its european customers, but if you buy a plex with euros from some plex reseller in the US, you might have a legal obligation to pay taxes but the plex reseller does not and can therefore "undercut" ccp

Not sure what you're on about but any official GTC/PLEX reseller has 2 PLEX on sale for 34 dollars or so. That's 20 or so pounds for you. Prices were the same for GTC. If your retailer is making you pay 30 pounds for 2 PLEX, go find a new retailer because the current one is overcharging by a LOT.

This is correct. 1- and 2-PLEX packages cost exactly the same as 30-day and 60-day ETCs ($19.99 and $34.99), so retailers who sell in USD maintain the same prices as before.

Right, I see where the confusion comes from. To be entirely correct, it should have said "... the same as the US dollar SRP for PLEX offered by CCP"

Without going into too much (boring) detail, this is essentially an entirely correct summary.

This is not entirely correct. GTCs used to cost the same as PLEX in US dollars, and nothing changes in this regard for the new PLEX Activation Codes. So if you used to buy 10 60-day GTCs every month from Reseller X and pay $350, you will still be able to buy 10 2-PLEX codes from the same Reseller X and pay exactly the same amount.

Spitfire, when people are enjoying themselves having a good rant and moan and complain about CCP, it's really rather rude of you to just barge in with your "facts" and your "information" and just spoil everyone's fun.

I don't want to tell you how to post, but maybe you could think about being a bit more considerate in future?

I am ever so sorry. Sad It's been a while since I posted, so I'm a little rusty on the etiquette. Big smile

But in all seriousness, I can see where it gets confusing, and want to stress that we are not changing the prices. On the contrary, we are working on some interesting ways to make buying the more expensive PLEX packages more worth it.

One of the unique features of ETC is that you could use ISK to activate an account that has hours for PLEX disable.

Lets say for example that I have an account that has hours for plex disabled, (because I use hours for plex/buddy incorrectly)
CCP removed hours for plex from that account and will never give it back . . . ok that's fine.

If I forget to reverse redeem PLEX on that account I can always transfer ISK to that account, post a WTB GTC at something well above market and get my account reactivated very quickly.

This might not be a problem for the average user but when you have 30+ accounts that you may or may not keep active at a point in time this can happen rather often (I buy 5-6 GTC every year for just this reason).

After you remove GTCs will there be any way to activate an account that has hours for plex disabled using ISK?

I suppose I could wait 6 months and use the "7 free days to return" thing, but that's not exactly expedient.

I'm pretty sure most products imported into the EU have different price margins in different member states since there is NO common VAT (how stupid that is, is an entirely different topic though) - and while there is no "value added tax" in no american state most of the american states raise a sales tax on a whole lot of different things (but it isn't called a VAT ^.^ ). Point beign - this is annyoing. I recon most players are american but they are in no way THE overwhelming majority, as in everyone else together is a margin.
Also - a subscription isn't a service or product or whatever? Because if the PLEX is one how come a sub ain't (it sure doesn't have the same pricetag)? Legaleese is so complicated. <.<

TLD;DR:
Guess I'll just keep using subscriptions - PLEX are to expensive either in or out of game.

virtually every product bought online ignores state sales taxes and the buyer is supposed to voluntarily pay the sales tax themselves

you can imagine how often that happens

You can always contact Customer Support at [email protected] to have your Hours for PLEX reset. You are then able to purchase PLEX with ISK in game. As long as this service is not abused we will reset it.

If for any reason you do not wish to use the Hours for PLEX service you can also use the PLEX Activation Codes (PAC) and apply a PLEX directly as game time from Account Management. You will simply need to add the PAC to your account and then use the PLEX in your redeeming system as payment. This process is detailed here:

1) Log into Account Management.
2) Hover over the “Game Time” drop down tab.
3) Select “Add Game Time”
4) Select the 1 month (30 days) subscription option.
5) Select PLEX as a payment method and verify that you indeed wish to use the PLEX as a payment method and continue with the confirmation.
6) A receipt will be shown when the PLEX injection is successful.

This will activate your account for 30 days (if using only one PLEX).

Um, why aren't you just buying a subscription from CCP? You can get 1 month for £9.99 last I looked.

This is what I do. In fact, during Fanfest this year Amazon.com had a 15% off deal for subs so I picked that up. Worked out to $9.30 USD per month. Quite the bargain IMO!

CCP feel free to do that again next year, but make it available to everyone instead of just those of us in the U.S. Blink

Keep in mind that CCP has no control over what deals Amazon, or any other reseller, decides to run.

Will we ever see the ability to extend another pilots account using a code or plex?

Thinking it would be so nice if I could activate a plex from my side on someone elses account (my alt accounts really) instead of having to log on to extend them all the time.

/c

Some way to transfer plex between accounts & redeem without logging in would be really helpful. Or if we reverse redeem plex on any character ingame the ability to see them via account management across our accounts and apply them (provided they are linked via email/rl info etc).

In the case of Amazon i doubt your statement, since the items in question are sold by the seller "CCP Games" on the platform Amazon and not by the seller "Amazon" as various other items.

Well... whats with the Buddyinvite Rewards btw.?

If an Player today activates his Account directly with an ETC in the Accountmanagement, the Buddy will get an Plex as Option afaik.
If an Player activates his Account with an PLEX the Buddy wil get no Plex (maybe for reselling).

So im just wondering ... isn´t it a bit contraproductive to remove the Plex as Reward for that Option... it could maybe reduce the number of Buddyprogramm Provider in Forums, i guess.
