EULA/ToS regarding 3rd party launcher.

Dear CCP

Right after you released the new launcher, people made their own version. (Example) The topics regarding those have been rightfully locked because you needed to discuss it internally.
It has been almost one year since then, I have not seen an update.

It would be nice to get an official update about this issue.

Is it allowed to use a private self made launcher?
Is it allowed to publicly release a self made launcher?

But you are probably right, though a public statement for everyone to read would also be nice.

The official line on this is that the Launcher is considered part of our client and modifying it in any way is considered a breach of our EULA.

I guess "modifying" includes writing it from scratch? A script that gets the needed files and passes it through to the client?

Ok. Too bad :( The official launcher has so much unused potential.

But what if you don't use official EVE Launcher, and you feed access_token directly to client
"bin\Exefile.exe /noconsole /ssoToken=... /triPlatform=dx11" ... you don't edit or change anything in launcher, after all you are allowed to add arguments to connect to sisi.

Interesting thinking, Resnik.

but right now, there is no (official) 3rd party tool or website, that works with the SSO token, so there would be no eula legal way to get it.
also, you need a new token after being offline for a few hours.

conclusion on my side: your idea itself would NOT be illegal, since there is no changing in launcher or other eve files. BUT somehow you need to get the SSO token, which is not legally possible at the moment (my understanding). (so in total not allowed)


please bear in mind, that the statements and conlusions i made, are my understanding!

if my understanding is wrong, please say it, so i know this point in the future.

I can get SSO with HTTP request to CCP server, URL and request process can be observed on local network traffic, which isn't prohibited by EULA.

I've spoken about "own" launchers with both Explorer and Veritas (without posting our communication) the reply I got from this was shortly that CCP will not support you doing your own launcher nor will they get themselves worked up about it - obviously as long as you do it properly and in a way that does not abuse resources or anything.

However this is not a policy or rule so they could chose to change any part of the authentication process at their own will and we are not to expect any help or notice.

So like Eterne said, modifying the launcher a no no, write your own and do the authentication ok (for the moment) but not supported.

Note: My question to CCP regarding this was originally about me actually posting the SSO authentication/path mechanism publicly (which imo would probably be regarded as more "sensitive" than you guys writing your own private launchers).
