Venture Tanking Gas Sites?

So I've been away from the game for a while, decided to come back and do something new, figured I'd try my hand at gas mining.

Basic information is plentiful, like where to find them, the fact that they do damage regularly.

A couple things I can't find with google fu though:

1. Is there a radius on the damage gas clouds do. Aka can you sit outside of the explosion range while mining them?

2. If not, is it possible to tank a venture to live through them? I've tried a few fits people have posted but they usually two shot through shields and half armor. Wondering if anyone has gotten through this or not.

I ask because while a cruiser/battlecruiser works, I was looking forward to using the venture. It would be kind of depressing if a ship made partly for gas harvesting was only good in WHs.

Anyways thanks for the help, looked on google/used the search tool but couldn't find anything, so thanks for any/all responses.

'Can't say much since I never tried to mine gas in 00, but the lowsec clouds don't do any damage at all.

T2 Venture called prospect is what you will need for Gas mining. It has bonus to yield, can fit cov op cloak and has T2 resists so you can tank. Price should get between 20-30 mil when it stabilizes.

1. Nope, Gas miners have like 2km range, gas clouds quite a bit more.
2. Theres no way of tanking your venture to survive both the cloud explosions and NPC spawns. Technically you can use only 1 gas miner on your venture and disable it after the cloud hit, rep up the damage and then re-enable it but you're not gonna be making a whole lot of isk this way and eventually the NPC's will spawn and pop you.

I see double bonus for gas:
25% gas cloud harvesting duration
100% to gas cloud harvesting yield

As apparently the only person in this thread who has actually mined 0.0 gas with a venture:

Yes, you can very easily tank a venture to handle mining gas sites, and deal with the explosion. If you only have 1 venture on the scene, a passive tank, or an active tank will work, without even having to fit anything expensive.
The problem comes with having multiple ventures. 3 is about the limit that you can handle, with either a very expensive tank, and/or ganglinks, but I really wouldn't reccomend mining it with more than 2 ventures present. Each miner will be causing periodic gas cloud explosions, and with even a small group present, you will find the damage quickly becomes unbearable even in battlecruisers.
