Hull Damage Graphics

I have been playing EVE for several years now.
In all the iterations of graphics I haven't seen much in the way of hull damage. It is always just the one blazing trail of fire for every ship. Never changing through out any patches.

I was wondering if there was any way to implement maybe different damage graphics or the like when reaching hull.

Given that super capital wrecks are being worked on model wise and subcap ship wrecks i would think that some of the damaged ship models might already be floating around.

Any thoughts?

A ship's hull being pierced by an volley of lazers comes to mind:
a giant hole punched into a cripeled hull mmmhh
should really get the adrenaline pumping.

New wrecks quite impressive, very beautyful indeed.

Hmm... Cuts seem more appropriate to Lazzor weapons. Thoughts for V4 inevidably come, make wreckage damage type dependent, add:

  • Kinetic example - bullet holes
  • Thermal example - molten armor plates, charred insides
  • Explosive 1, Explosive 2 examples, may be applied to all wrecks in parts that supposedly house reactor, engine and whatnot.

I'm way more interested in them showing shields being damaged, I love the diffusion effect that was shown off a while ago.

I don't remember where did I find it, but at one of the lastest Fanfests there was a showdown of Work in Progress (still very alpha) about how to better show the damage on all ship layers (even shields shimmering visibly). And on this year's Fanfest, they talked about engine flares, sun flares, lowering star light intensity with distance to them... Very promising. Perhaps you like to read this :)
