Maybe your internet connection has not the best stability and skips some packets or w/e.

I have never had this kind of issue over my three year EVE experience.

What is this sorcery?

CCP needs to impliment a more robust download protocal - I've had SEVERAL issues with patches not downloading correctly over the last 3 years.

It's NOT "my" connection - I do not have this issue with ANY other game I have ever downloaded patches or expansions or the entire GAME with.

I was downloading this at work, which is at a university, which has a backbone to the internet. I downloaded the patch at 10MB/s. I'm pretty sure its as stable as internet connections get. Its not a internet issue.

I cant download the client without downloading and running the repair.exe several times, this is rediculous. the manual patch files dl at at an amazing 147 k/s and would take 8 hrs on my 6 mb connection. So , PLEASE fix you client download, and stop blaming peoples connections.

Yea, my trick is, download patch. i tries to install. i get this error. I let it run repair.exe. It then tries to install again, it fails again, i run repair.exe again. It tries again, fails again. Then i say "No" to repair.exe, and it continues to install like everything is fine. o.O But i have to let do the repair thing a few times. If i say no the first time, it cancels the install. And most times, just trying to run it once only leads to it wanting to re-download the entire thing, which only produces the same problem.

I just wanted to let everybody know that we are aware of this issue but unfortunately are unable to reproduce this in house, any information you can provide (error logs ,repair tool logs, tracert routes, information about your service provider, etc) is much appreciated.

Please send me a personal message if you can replicate this issue and are interested in investigating the cause with us.

We are working on improving the user experience when running into patch or installing issue but unfortunately I can't give you any specific date when this will reach you on TQ.

For the future we are developing new technologies to deliver content in a more forward and pain free fashion (see DevBlog and Video ~3:25), you could already test the first version on SISI and it will be available again in the future.

I'm very interested in this case, a lot of universities have advanced firewalls etc set up which might even go so far to look into the actual data transferred - this might cause issues with the rather large data packages we require to update and install EVE Online.

Do you have any chance to get more information about the network setup of your university?

I can try, but our university keeps the network pretty unrestricted. Ive downloaded torrents on it with out issue. There is also the fact that ive run into this issue on my home internet as well. I did notice a difference when i tried to patch on my non-admin profile (tho it did ask me to run as admin, which i did), in which multiple repair.exe runs did not continue the install. Where as when i switched to my Admin profile, i did still have to run the repair, but the trick i mentioned above did work.

Ill see if i can get more information on the network, but as i said, this has happened at home as well.

Also, i know Eve Online's server, Tranquility, listens on port 26000, but is that the same for the patch server?

Patching is all done via HTTP aka Port 80.

Do you have any chance to upload one of the broken patch payloads you received, so I can analyse the difference between it and a correct payload?

no, i managed to get this one to work so i no longer have the files. If it does it next patch i can try to hang on to it (where ever it puts it) and send it someplace.. wherever your wanting it to go.

I've been playing on and off since 2007 and this has been an issue all along. I'd bet it's what was mentioned above, a download protocol that doesn't provide sufficient error-checking. They should use a Torrent model.

And there is part of your problem right there.

HTTP was NEVER intended for use on large files where 100% accuracy is required, or where interruptions can cause major issues.

FTP was speficically designed for large file transfers, ability to RESUME a transfer when it gets interrupted, etc.

FTP is a MUCH more robust protocal for doing downloading with, though a Modern setup using Bittorrent would work even better (where Bittorrent isn't blocked due to folks abusing it).

He might be right. This current patch ( 321452 -> 313364 ) i didnt have any problems with . Its only 8mb, it downloaded and installed without issue... on my non-admin profile. Its always the larger patches (200-300mb+) that i have this problem with.

A good try would be if you would download a torrent of the old client and then make a update and if the error goes up do a checksum and send it to CCP dev.
