Returning player - Skill issues

Hi, I am a returning player. I have not played in many years and I have a few questions. I noticed that when I expand my skills a green notification showing "unallocated skill points" . The points show about 1.2m. How could this occur?

Secondly, I am piloting a vagabond and am still able to use it, however my skill tree shows that I should not be able to do so because i am missing "capacitor management". However the skill "Power Grid Management" is at III. I am not sure what is going on here.

thanks in advance for your help.

Also, I see a skill missing for flying the Mackinaw. The skill is Mining Frigate, however I do already have Mining Barge to 5 and Exhumers to 4. The ship also shows up if I go into EVEMon and select "Ships I can Fly"

Welcome back.

A while ago (not sure as I just returned in march after 4 years) CCP removed all learning skills from the game. To balance this they allocated all sp you had in them into a queue which you can now apply to any skills you want.

They also changed skills necessary to fly certain ships. In doing this they made it so if you were already able to fly something before the change, you would still be able to do so after, which is how you can fly the mack and vaga without the required skills.

You're young, you'll adjust. I'm old, I'll get used to it.

Oh wow, that's interesting. I didn't even think to look for my learning skills once I got back.

So I will just need to look at eve mon from now on to determine if I can fly a specific ship now?

thanks for the response!

No if you show info a ship ingame and the top skill in the list is green (for example Heavy assault ships for your vaga) then you can fly it regardeless of what skills you are missing further down in the tree.

The Coreli Corporation is recruiting.

Yeah, show info on a ship (or module) and there's a "requirements" tab that will show you if you can fly or use it.

To use the unallocated skill points you have to pause any training (may even have to have an empty skill queue) and then right click on the skill. You'll get an option to apply unallocated skillpoints and it will ask you how many you want to apply, with the max being the amount needed to complete the skill to the next level.

This came in handy for me when I returned.

This confuses a LOT of people.

Ships require very few skills, typically less than 4: primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary. All the other skills are prerequisites for these skills.

Example: Carriers require 2 skills, Primary = Capital Ships 1, Secondary = Racial Carrier 1.

If you look on the the info, the left-most skills are the required. If you have the primary, secondary, etc., skills showing as green, then you can use that ship.

The other skills are prerequisites for injecting the required skill. If you already have the skill injected, these prerequisites don't apply to you.
