Hi, im relatively new to Eve, and ive been running missions, but I just wanted to ask, it says on the eve wiki, that the agent standings that allow you to run higher level missions, takes the highest effective standing.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Standings_mechanics

All level 2 thru level 5 agents require a minimum derived standing, which is taken as the highest of the "Standings With You" on the agent's Standings Tab (in-game).

Right now, my standings with a certain faction is Bad(-1.00 to -4.00), but my standing with the corporation within that faction is above 1.00. Doesnt this mean that I can run level 2 missions?

If the standing with the faction is below -2 you are unable to run missions higher then over 1.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

What Forest said.

The "highest effective standing" rule only applies if the standing with the faction is above -2.

Ah, okay, thank you for answering. Sadly my standing is less than -2.00, which explains why i can only run level 1 missions.

Stop running missions against empire factions, those will cause your standings to plummet.
Also be aware that there are derived standing gains and losses, so if you have bad standings with the Gallente, for example, you can still repair them by doing storyline missions with the Minmatar, though that gain will be just a percentage of your Minni standings gain. It´s the same way with standing losses, of course.

Hey Alexis,

It's fairly common starting out running missions and not understanding how faction standings work. I got pretty close to getting 'attack on sight' for some of the faction navy's.

My first piece of advice is to check EvE Survival to make sure that when an agent is offering a mission it isn't against the four main factions (Amarr, Gallente, Minmatar, Caldari). You can decline a mission every 4 hours from an agent. Eve survival will also give some pointers on the best way to complete the mission compiled from other players, see here.

If you're worried about the standing you have now, there are ways to bounce back aside from grinding level 1 missions, although that is an option. I'll refer you here to what is commonly called "The Plan."

The EvE University corporation also has a well laid out page explaining faction standings in some detail, check it out!
