I'm stubborn and want to fly my darned hulk, without exploding!

I still mine in a hulk with one character with Orca support with another and I have yet to be targeted by anyone trying to destroy it. It comes down to the system you choose to mine in. I mine away from trading hubs, systems that have production slots in the stations and systems that have popular agents.

I'm not too bothered at this moment about losing my hulk, I've made ISK and bought a replacement that's gathering dust and my wallet is steadily going up so the risk at the moment does not outweigh the reward. Should I lose a hulk or two then I might rethink but until then...

Seriously... you've been told many time already - The Hulk is not designed to be flown for solo mining.

Sell em and buy a stronger mining ship. Maybe there's one that's been designed to survive ganks.... who knows, maybe some helpful players have already named this helpful mining ship in this very thread????

While I'd never fly a Hulk for solo mining, I'll give you a quick answer.

Hypothetically I can buffer tank it to live through a three Cat gank attempt if they know what they're doing and a four man gank if they don't. It'll require a 3% PG implant though if you have maxed skills.

So while it's not really worth the trouble, you might live long enough if you mine in some back water system to cover your costs.

You want 3 things:

- Fly a Hulk
- Fit for yield
- Be in H-sec

You can do 2 of these at the same time.

1. Pay attention to grid, local and d-scan, bounce if cats or scouts get near

2. Buy a mining permit

3. Fly a damn skiff, you can get close to as much yield as a hulk, with 6 times the tank. Hulk is a fleet ship, not something to be used solo.

4. Buy a mining permit

5. Become friends with gankers, provide them with intel, yadda yadda yadda, they're not gonna kill one of the good miners.

It's not that pirates are bad guys and miners are good guys. It's just different playstyles. You should know since you've been in SCUM.

Having friends in DPS ships when you're flying a harvesting ship is just common sense. Friends are by far the most powerful asset in EVE.

It may work if you're AFK on your mining toon because you're ATK on your ganking toon. Smile

That's what I meant by making friends, since OP has some combat history anyway.

High sec miners are the most griefed group of players in existence. Don't know why anyone bothers with it.
