I wouldn't mind this. After all, ground combat makes up like half of the startup cinematic...

However, to keep things balanced between EVE subscribers and people just playing Legion, they should have two separate skill queues (if skills work similarly in Legion).

Having said that, CCP just threw 10 years worth of lore out the window. Why would a capsuleer, the elite of the elite, voluntarily go and do grunt work or sit in a drone? And turning it around, why does a stupid grunt soldier suddenly have the ability to become a pod pilot? Way to kill not only 1, but 2 story lines. Also the entire cloning thing is becoming old really fast. It's THE most overused plot device in the entire EVE universe.

Because they feel like it? I never got why people get so attached to the idea, that the game lore would be some kind of limiting factor for game design. The lore is there to explain the existing reality and limitations with a bit of flavor, but it's just words on paper. Lore is largely slave to gameplay. Even if you switch that around, the end result is the same. A few additional paragraphs will remove that artificial limitation without creating any conflict with the lore. If you feel lazy, you can just add something like: "X wasn't previously possible because of A and B, but recent technological advances have removed such limitation". It would then actually be against the lore to not allow such transfers for the players, so therefore it must be allowed. Either way problem solved.

With cloning grants immortality, immortality gets boring if you just do the same thing. you gotta switch things up from time to time. Though CCP stop caring about lore long ago, not really a surprise, and not that big of a deal.

Exactly this. When you're immortal and death doesn't really matter to you, you do whatever you feel like doing if you're that kind of person. On the other side, there might also be immortals who simply enjoy the freedom given to them to excel in several fields and not just one - Not all tasks can be forced to completion with starships.

Aside from that, people are only given the option to play in Legion and Valkyrie with the same character, they're not being forced to. They can still stay snobs if they want to :)

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

You can have combat clone beside of your pilot clone. So two sets of skillsets. Guristas virtualization will make your other skillset progress when you are in other clone. So not stopping learning anytime. One consciousnes, two skillsets.

Great stuff. I'd be happy to pay a larger sub for access to all games with a unified skill queue.

i.e. make it so that energy management, targeting or shield skills are the same for all games. May need to have a skill point merge at some point so the existing dust characters can get the benefit of their training represented overall. This would probably mean that a lot of EVE veterans could start Dust with 'almost' max skills but little technique for FPS. Interesting times in New Eden Cool

I see it like that: You launch the EVE universe, then you have three options, Fighter pilot, capsuleer, and combat ground clone, the moment you choose one, think starting career, it will be your primary activity, and you would have to buy with ISK the Fighter or capsuleer clone just like you buy the clones in EVE. Then clones in every part of eve universe would take their own way with skillsets and ISK price.

While this sounds all well and good. CCP's history of delivering pipe dreams from Fanfest is about as good as my kill board. Fanfest typically shows off some Jesus feature that gets everyone excited and then CCP shift gears to focus on something else. It's just their nature. While what they propose would be interesting, I'll reserve my excitement for tangible product. After all they still need to fix so much of their broken game as it is.

cloning's always been central to the story Straight it's half of what makes a capsuleer so powerful. the dust and valk guys aren't 'grunts', either

i imagine that our character can jump to a clone with different abilities, different skillbooks

i like the 'one identity' thing, it underscores the 'one game, one universe' idea

More details: alts, we now have alts in EVE, so basically we should get new identity with a sum of 3 for one account in eve universe, for us these would be all 3 capsuleer ones, and every one could jump to a new career. One wallet for aurum and ISK. One economy, one market, just as they have been talking from beginning. That I want to see.

Now... this could be interesting. Running around the battlefield with this name might make people lose concentration for a split second allowing me to shoot them in the face.

I hope Legion will not become some F2P crap like it was hinted in the survey! Tie it to EVE sub. +5 bucks or something.

Its going to basically be an upgraded Dust, and its also run by management experienced in micro-transactions. If this isn't free to play, I would be very surprised.

You really think someone would do that? Just log into EvE and tell lies?

If it will be free to play, it will have microtransactions and will fail horribly!

Not too excited about playing an FPS that has a training queue. And requires ISK management and modules and fitting and whatnot. And has micro transactions. But I'll give it a try at least.

I wonder how they explain it lore-wise.

DUST-clone technology is something completly different* from Capsuleer Clone Stuff and about Legion noone really knows yet.

How can I jump with my character that resides in a wormhole without scanned exits to a character on a planet shooting people with pistols and stuff in a lowsec system I've never visited before?

can you elaborate for those of us not plugged in to Fanfest? Roll

The CTO just presented a vision of a future state where you would be able to go into EVE, Dust/Legion and Valkyrie using the same in-game identity from a shared entry point.

Emphasis of “vision” and “future”.
That's not technically hard. The EVE client and the launcher are two different apps. The launcher can be configured to launch any number of games they wish to script into it, and using a single account log-in.
