I just got an invite too. I'll be trying it out this weekend - I'm not sure how it will run on my poor old laptop.

I dont think the graphics are too demanding. Reminds me of the old N64 Mario games. Cartoony but with a modern look.

EDIT: make sure to download the game in advance. Took a few hours for me.

Feel free to share with us your reviews.

After almost 100 hours in Starbound I pretty much squeezed all I could from my 15$ and looking to try something new, and while Warband with PoP and Brytenwalda can keep me entertained for a long while I really ache to try something new.

Wildstar...

Is that the one with the two factions and half of the races look like furries?

Oh wait, I just described half of the MMO's out there... Ugh

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

Sticky: AFK Cloaking Thread It's not pretty, but it's there.

Yep, that's the one.

It's the game play mechanics I mostly interested in. I dont care if my toon has bunny ears (there are also humanoids btw). If the game is fun to play my toon can have a pecker head for all I care.

OK played the beta this weekend.

Still very buggy but playable. I tried out three different classes in both factions and played them to level 6 or 7.
Classes: Medic, Engineer and Esper.

Esper is more of the magical type. Engineer and Medic are more tech oriented classes. I enjoyed Medic the most (dont let the healer fool you..he can put out some serious damage).

Overall the game is enjoyable and varied enough in quest choices and career paths to make it interesting and not so repeatable as other games.

Initially, all the cutesy stuff was fine but got old after awhile, so I turned off the voices. Wheras Elder Scrolls tries to come across too serious, Wildstar tends to get too goofy at times.

Missing from the beta was macro support. Not currently known if it will support abilities in macros. Personally I hope so. With the free form aiming, it was hard enough to keep my target in sight and hit the correct keys...but not impossible. Also missing was some coherent idea of what stats my charcater/class was suppose to be working on.

Had to initally tune the start up to use DX11 with a switch. Dont know why it didnt default to it to start with.

Ran decent on an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series but not spectacular. So I recommend a better card.

Good game but I will have to see the finished product before I can recommned it.

Grade: 7/10

I've been playing Wildstar for a while, and honestly, for what is essentially a themepark MMO it's actually pretty fun.

In particular, the combat is quite a bit more satisfying than I expected, I really think Carbine has hit on something with their telegraph system.

In PvP in particular the telegraph system adds some depth to combat that I haven't really seen before. Area denial featuring primarily among them.

The graphics are well polished without being graphics card melting, and the game has a fairly good upper bound without hurting accessibility too much. In particular, the artistic style evokes some of the wackiness of the Borderlands series, the lighthearted hilarity of violence, without being excessively gory.

As for character customization. Each class can only use one weapon type, they're locked into that, and they are also unable to change their armor category. You either get heavy, medium, or light.

The true customization options open up with the action bar and the "Amp" (talent point) system. First the action bar. You are limited to a fairly small amount of skills you can put on the bar, but you have a vast array of skills to choose from. This manages to both reduce UI clutter (the UI needs some work, but honestly it's functional without getting in the player's way too much) as well as to allow for a wide variety of potential builds, and to tailor your skillset for the situation. It works.

The Amp system is rather interesting as well, it is a grid based system rather than a static selection of a "specialization" tree. This allows, once again, for a wide variety of hybrid builds as well as just picking straight up deeps or support points.

The entire running theme is player choice. There are TONS of options, something that has been lost in recent years of gaming.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

Does preordering get you anything important that waiting a week/month after release and seeing what other people think of it will not ?

Or is it just the usual stuff that doesn't matter in the long run ?

Yes, Wildstar does look interesting to me. But after playing though GW2's launch and being told that it was a good MMO launch, I've decided that I never want to play an MMO on launch. I'll wait till the launch issues are fixed. I'll give time for the guilds who form before release with people who keep jumping between MMOs to fall apart as most of their membership leaves for other games*.

If I wait a month or three I won't be missing out on anything important.

*Especially the people who pay real money to get themselves power levelled, then complain about the lack of content.

The biggest hurdle I see that could stop me playing Wildstar is that it's a subscription game. Which means it's going to need to be significantly better than GW2 to justify the subscription. Just being slightly better will not be enough.
I know that they are copying Eve's Plex system. But I can't see myself having enough time to pay for that.

I did, yes. I have plenty of disposable income, and I tend to give things a try unless they look as godawful as ESO.

I figure a pre order gives 30 days of game time, plus the 30 I already signed for. Even with my work schedule I ought to be able to give it a thumbs up or thumbs down by then.

Honestly can't wait til it comes out, I love their combat system so far. If they can balance out the 40v40 PvP zones (they're too small right now, too zergy) then I will be pretty happy with it.

Yeah, Im pretty exicted about it too.

I also beta tested ESO. Boy that was a disappointment.

The combat felt very clunky.

I have press credentials thanks to having worked for a gaming magazine before, so I got in on the ground floor of that because I have played Elder Scrolls games since Morrowind.

I was hard pressed not to break the NDA by warning people off of playing ESO. Because... yikes. They ****ed up that one bad.

Does signing an NDA actually prevent legally bind you from to not warning people to not wast their time? I mean, as long as you do not actually tell them why that is.

Eh, I've signed enough of those in my time to not try and tiptoe around it. I let them find out for themselves.

- Cosmetic stuff. Which will probably not look as good as other cosmetic options as the devs want everyone to buy from the microtransaction store.
- Beta access. Doesn't matter at all, as it gets wiped.
- Head Start. Those 3 days don't mean anything in the long term.
- Storage bag. I'm not sure.

The fact is that if there is anything that matters in the preorder, it will either become available to other players later so preorders get you a discount at most. Or it will prevent new players from joining when they see that the developers are giving preorder players favoured treatment.

If he breaks NDA in any manner, other publishers will notice it. Then they won't let him take part in future press betas. So even if he can legally break an NDA, it will be bad for his career. Especially if he breaks it in a way that loses sales.

Speaking of ESO, what press I saw about it before the headstart began was favourable towards it. It's only after players start playing the released game that truth comes out. I can't even think of any exceptions to this.
I'm not saying that the press lies about games. After all, the complaints are usually about bugs, and bugs in a beta don't matter if the devs say they will be fixed for launch.

As far as the cosmetic stuff goes, I don't actually think there is a microtransaction store. If there is I haven't noticed it yet, and I've been playing the beta for weeks.
