Seller always pays sales tax. Buyer always doesn't.

Whoever puts up the order pays the broker fee.

First time you sold to a buy order, second time you put up a sell order yourself (don't know how though since the other party is an npc... still, that's the rule).

EDIT: I guess you sold, say, 100 units to an npc buy order of 50. Excess 50 became your sell order. Npc instantly put a new buy order up, your sell order instantly sold, but you got stuck with the brokers fee.

Next time check buy order quantity and don't try to sell more: sell less or equal and wait for a new npc buy order to pop up.

To prevent you from getting stuck with the broker's fee for such transactions make sure you set your sell order to "instantaneously" rather than to a time interval.

Few people understand the psycology of a highway traffic cop. Your average speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Nice, didn't know that this existed. Meaning it instantly expires if no match is found?

Broker's fee only applies if you don't put up a sell order, but rather sell immediately to the highest buy order in your location.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Other way around actually. Broker fee applies if you create a sell order.
If you sell instantly it doesn't apply.
