Remotely Detonated Drones

What I'd really like to see in the game is a remotely detonated drone of some kind that attaches itself to the target's hull, and then either detonates after a time delay (set by a timer) expires or the owner pushes the button.

Skills could include the range (# of solar systems in distance) at which the drone receives the signal to pop itself, another skill to boost the amount of damage inflicted... the usual assortement of skill-driven bonuses and limits.

T2 versions could be cloaky, right up to the point they attach themselves to the target's hull.... various racial types for differing damage profiles... again, the usual assortment of attributes vis-a-vis the racial type of drone.

Fun for the whole family... and really, what's more fun than adding another element of danger to a game that already thrives on nasty surprises ? Twisted

Not going to get into "game mechanics", we pay devs for that... debate as needed, if needed.

I could imagine something like that "on-grid", basically suicide bomber drones, but I wouldn't make it possible across entire systems or more ! There would be too many unforeseen consequences.

To make it practical for solo use these drones would have to have to deal a high amount of damage, which would immediately break it thanks to the drone assist mechanic for anyone not playing solo.

Even without drone assist, they'd be broken when used in groups of 15-20 people. You're essentially looking at being able to instantly destroy any 2 or 3 ships on field, sans drone travel time, meaning enemy logi would evaporate as soon as the FC gave the command to detonate.

Interesting idea from a practicality/lore perspective, it's definitely a tactic you would see being used in the Eve universe just because it's simple, logical and effective. Terrible nightmare to try and balance from a mechanics/gameplay perspective.

Just have them blow up if the opponent get close to you, damaging you and others nearby. They would essentially be depth charges that orbit you at a particular range.

Tears for the person who dc's and falls out of fleet... And the fleet for that matter.

Yep, sounds FOF Missiles to me, except I think the OP is thinking of combining it with a SmartBomb.

Missiles need splash damage :P 1K for Rockets/Small, 5K for HAM/HM, and 15K for Cruise/Torps damage on an inverse range from impact ratio(the further away you are the less damage). Splash can hit friendlies, just like Bombs :P
