how do i get the colorfull brackets in overview

It's not a client modification. These are all tools included with the Overview settings. CCP just omits to tell us about using them properly when we start playing.

I can confirm modifying your clients settings via the ingame UI is definitely not allowed.

CCP don't intend a lot of things, yet they are permitted.

Lack of information to the contrary, about a topic that comes up often, implies that CCP are ok with using the ingame tools and some colour tags to customise the overview

They're too busy trying to figure out how to attract new players, while ignoring the reasons why they can't keep said players.

It's a bloody setting in the bloody client, not a goddamn hack. Do you even know what a "client modification" is? It's modifying the source code, not using something in the UI. By your definition undocking a ship is a client modification. Or changing your resolution from the settings menu.
