With forced Facebook integration? Pffhhah! Yeah no.

All posts and mails screencapped and time stamped, including out of EVE, you will not reverse on me.

Might come in handy!

Shameless plug to my favorite kickstarted project, but conversely The Repopulation has been in development for about 18 months, has received less than a million dollars, and has a functioning alpha build.

It's also a sandbox MMO with design elements from Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, and our very own EVE. As opposed to a glorified single player game.

The game allows you to found "player factions" separate from the NPC factions, and conquer and terraform your own areas.

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

Amazing. In other words they have done more with less money and time than SC, and with a grander scope for their game too.

It truly does make me wonder what a typical day at the SC development studio looks like.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Much as it pains me to link to tumblr, I think it might look something like this.

Guys, If we make it to my 50 million stretch goal, I release another ship to look at in your hangar! Itll only cost you another 175 dollars! Don't forget, the alpha version of the dogfighting module will be released later this wee...mont....yea.... errr..sometime before 2018.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Well, they got it to flush. Not that it always flushes in the same direction.

Maybe Valk and 3D based gameplay is the future of all gaming. Why see it as killing anything, it's just another step.

I'd prefer a nicer headset personally - and given how fast tech moves I reckon we'll see one soon. There's no reason to think gaming companies can't adapt to the trend rather than be killed by it. I think it's sensible in some ways for CCP to grab it early on, although risky given their track record with new projects. Why didn't they adopt OR for elements of an existing game first, i.e. Dust?

Having said that I'd have more faith in EA than FB to churn out anything viable via Occulus now. I've a feeling the tech will be swiped up and developed by someone else, better.

I've heard this for a long time but it keeps coming back to 3 problems

  • Hardware is specialized and expensive
  • You look like a creep wearing it
  • They are physically heavy. This makes them awkward to use for long periods. Neck and back strain mainly.

These are still unsolved problems.

Yep. Even tho Valk looks fun no way am I even considering it with that headset. There are other options floating about though, like google glasses. I hate to say it, but I think the market catalyst on this will be either be Apple or TV studios. Maybe porn producers :P If we all end up wearing Riddick style goggles I'm good with that, but it needs to be small, light and cool looking for true mass appeal. Even if the tech is on a beltclip or w/e and all you have over your eyes are screens.

With regards to SC, the bigger the hype train gets, the less enthused I am, especialy seeing as how reluctant the devs seem to be to show some actual game. Elite dangerous seems like a safer hope for a decent space sim.

And so far Valkyrie is a nice piece of new software to compliment a nice piece of new hardware, not an alternative to the fedid corrosive swamp of pride and failiure that is Internet Spaceships In Space.

no... it won't.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

If there was any slightest worry that [insert game here] would kill EVE you'd see all the pilots fleeing already.

Valkyrie will be available to a very select crowd of people who actually have an interest in the hardware and the money to justify spending it on what is basically a one-launch-game platform.

I think you're all going to be surprised at how small that crowd actually is.

Let me put it to you this way... Dust will be several times more popular. DUST.

When it becomes more than vaporware, maybe it might be a threat. Then again I am not sure EVE will be around for the year 2059.

Does Valkyrie interact with EVE at all?
From my reading, it does not, ehich is a huge shame, and a lamentable continuation of the same lack for DUST.
Would be so awesome with EVE as the macro background for the micro activities of players in DUST and Valk.
Everytime I realise that, its like being rudely awakened from a dream, only to realise reality is not so :/

Ive been interested in dog fight simulators ever since I read Gibson/Swanwick's "Dogfight".
Imo a game with 3axis of motion provides much more potential than landbased FPS, especially with the zero-g/frictionless environment of space. Anyone remember "Descent"?

Unfortunately, I will be late to the Valk party. Would need to buy a new rig+Oculus, and I just flat out cant afford it for quite sometime yet.
