I have no idea if this is the place to post this but let's try...

for long time I've seen some weird rats behavior.

Let's say I'm on some belt or site or something which randomly spawn rats at you.

You see them blinking yellow closing on you,
Then I launch my squad of drones and locking targets...
On large groups some rats will run away immediately and some will run away mid battle.
Many times after I'll pull back my drones those cowardly rats will come back to try another go with me.

This is very interesting behavior,

Does rats evolve some kind of self preservation code?

Hey, EVE IS real to the rats! Id run too!

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Yeah... out cruising belts and blapping groups of rats from my SB at range, zip and one escapes. funny...
I assume they go somewhere, never chased them around yet though.

I'm in it for the money

lol something funny has happened... something like 20 rats ran away from me throughout the day in that solar system then in 3 waves all of them attacked me and now the belt is filled with wrecks like some security mission pocket lol

I've actively chased a group of rats around a system because they had a Hauler, Trailer, and Carrier with them. Netted myself 250m isk worth of minerals off the three, but I had to chase them through four asteroid belts!

When rats go yellow on your ship, they're targeting your drones. They'll start pulling range on your drones. Since those drones are moving away from you and towards them, the NPC's will be pulling away from you too.

Some groups of rats will actually warp off. Stupid.

They were yellow before I released my drones.

I always wait until they target\shoot my ship then I release my drones.

Fair enuff. I wasnt even there so I base my reply on what you write. If it doesnt add up, sorry about that.

Yellow boxing rats are not shooting you. They've simply targeted you. If you use 2 ships, one can be yellow-boxed, the other will be red-boxed. Thats the one they're shooting at. You can replace the second ship with drones.

If you want NPC to keep burning towards you and shooting, you'll need to have them RED boxing you. I would advise to drop drones after they've redboxed you instead of yellowboxing (meaning after they're actually shooting at you like you mentioned).

When they go from red to yellow, they're still targetting you, but found something else to shoot at. Like your drones. And then they'll pull range.

Rats did this for like ... forever... has it ever been any different? I am of the opinion this mechanic is responsible for rats ending up at people's POS etc. Is this assumption correct?

Yeah, the rats that warp off end up going to another seemingly random grid in the system. It could be a station, anom, POS or even just a safe spot.

...and no you can't warp scramble rats to prevent it either. They warp anyway.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Certainly always been happening, though ill agree it seems like its been happening more lately. At least roaming 0.1's-0.2's for sec tags. Rats regularly split, though so far none of the clone soldiers.

Tell you what I do like though: A killer. A dyed-in-the-wool killer. Cold-blooded, clean, methodical and thorough.

Actually I think you can scramble them. I had a rat hauler that kept running then coming back, when I would scramble it my lock would be broken repeatedly. They act like someone spamming warp with a target breaker somehow, but I remember the scrambler causing it to stop moving as it was trying to warp. I may be wrong though it was only once I did this.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Yes, I have seen this happen many times as well. Just when you think another rat has signed his death warrant by attempting to solo a pod pilot, he wises up and makes a better call.

If this is evidence of a growing intelligence, then it only means one thing; They are learning... Shocked SPOOKY!

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

I've always used warp disruptors on belt rats, particularly battleships. They do try to warp off sometimes otherwise.
