Not sure what to do, i think this is a little unfair.

This is somewhat of a confusing issue so for the sake of brevity i'm going to put it into bullet points:

. I bought eve online on Steam a few months ago.

. I bought a second account (non-Steam) a month ago.

. If i launch my non-Steam account first, there is no way i can initiate my Steam account without first closing the non-Steam one down. (this has been tested and confirmed to me by a GM whom i made a ticket to, he advised me to submit it as a bug, and i have done so, he also advised to have a second client running as a work-around, one free of Steam)

. There has been no fix to the situation.

. I tried to have two separate clients running side by side but there is slowdown, not to mention UI and settings are not the same. (that is clients not accounts, 2 accounts run fine when on the same client, it's two separate clients that is the problem when i attempt to play this way)

. This is a handicap for me, as i sometimes need to close my Steam account and relaunch it, but i cannot do so without going offline with the non-Steam account.

. So to recap, if my steam account character is mining, and my non-Steam character is in a fleet, if i close my miner down for any reason, i cannot then relaunch him without logging off my character who is in fleet first.

I know life isn't fair but i pay the same amount monthly as anyone else and it doesn't seem right that i have this problem just because i bought EVE on Steam.

I'd be happy if CCP would please transfer my steam account characters to a non-steam account, if that were possible, i know i can do it myself at my own cost, but i really don't see why it should fall on me to do so when this isn't my fault.

If you read this far thank you, if you're wondering why i posted this in general instead of support it's because apart from having already done so and getting no fix, i'm more interested in knowing what other players think about this, whether i'm overly complaining or whether i have a point.

I agree with you,
but I am unsure if it's that simple to simply transfer your account.

No idea how complicated this becomes regarding billing and such.

It sucks, and isn't made particularly clear to customers beforehand.

There are invariably complications exactly like this when a "middleman" is involved.

I personally hold a policy that I always go directly to the source, if at all possible.
If I lived in Iceland, I would have gone down to the HQ and registered there. I'm not even kidding.
It may cost you a bit more sometimes, but having access directly to the source, is invaluable from a customer relations perspective.

try running the dx9 client on steam with overlays off. i had an account via steam and when the dx11 client was introduced i began having that slow down issue, downgrading the client helped. sadly the problem is caused both by the eve client and the steam overlay... so, i guess getting two different companies to sort their crap is too complicated.

personally i sold the character(prober) and closed the account, at that point i was already well established on the game, so it was something i was going to do anyway, in your case, i have to say, no. you are not overly complaining and you do have a point, sadly it seems that "steam eve" and "non steam eve" are treated like two different products by CCP, so having issues when trying to use them both at the same time is not really a problem with either one, its just you being a silly consumer and expecting stuff to work as advertized.

this post has been written with dangerously low levels of caffeine in my system so it may come out like overly grumpy and/or rude.

I would try and raise a petition on the matter. See what happens. I have had very timely and good responses so far with that.

Unfortunately they may be a little tied with what the 3rd party contracts are and such.

Interesting. I didn't know you had to log in with Steam every time if you bought EVE through Steam.

Does that also mean you cannot sell characters in the characterbazaar if they're on a steam account?

I feel for the OP. This seems like an unnecessary complication.

You need two different EVE installs. Keep your Steam install and only use it for your Steam-based account.

Download the client from CCP website and install into a different directory and use for your non-Steam account.

Set both to dx9 and it works fine.

You can see characters off your Steam account, it was an issue but they resolved it.

I'll try to find links confirming all of this.

Thanks guys i appreciate the advice, i'm guessing my characters won't be transferred to a non-Steam account as this would set a precedent for anyone else experiencing the same issue, it's true that i only see about a thousand Steam players on at any one time, but i still hope a GM will see this and think, "hm, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to get the support guys to fix this."

Thanks again.

If I had 0.01ISK for every problem I heard about Steam I'd be the richest person in Eve.

No you don't, you can start eve directly from steamapps folder without starting STEAM.

have you installed eve a second time in a different (non steam) folder for your non steam account?

if not, you should.

Afaik you can transfer characters from a Steam account but you can't transfer to a Steam account.

In otherwords, you can sell your characters but not buy any.

I was in this exact same situation. I gave up on using the Steam account - too many Steam install bugs, patching took longer, and when Steam is down you're cutoff on EVE as well.

Just run the client directly from a non-Steam install. Invoke it directly from the install directory. When notified of a patch, shut down the client immediately and run repair.exe directly from the install directory. You do give up the advantage of always having your client account filled in already when using two different installs, but having to patch only one client is worth that loss (barely).

BTW, you don't buy EVE, you pay for services.

If you can't transfer characters to and from a Steam-based client something is very messed up.

That does suck OP. I would suggest asking the GM if you could get a non-charged transfer to an active account if you open up another sub, if you said you did that already I forgot. Either way, escalate the issue if the original GM denies you. Be very polite and and do not act entitled. Those two actions are a fast track to being ignored. YOU still may end up having to pay the transfer fee, but that is hopefully still only $20.

Nah. Quite congenial considering the posting abilities of most of us posters here in GD. The meanest thing you did was call the OP a silly consumer. That is a far cry better than most of the insults thrown around on these here forums Lol The only thing you could have done to be more nice was to maybe call him a consumer that needs to learn how to do a bit more research before making purchases.

I would go and create a new account directly from account management, then transfer your toon to that account and forget about the Steam one. Sure, it will cost you 2 plex, or 20bux US, but doing so will instantly fix the headache you are having. If you have a lot of time left on the Steam based account, you can either wait it out, or build a toon to sell on the bazaar just before the account expires.

In order to get two accounts to play nicely side by side (without having to shutdown the other etc..) as mentioned, you will need both the steam and non-steam clients installed. Then you can move your configurations around from within "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\" as desired.

side-note: I really wish you could attach a username for use with non-steam eve-clients in order to get around the SSO "awesomeness".

well, i have one character on there that has 5 months training, and another that i spent plex on for dual training, has 3 months, plex is about £17 each in the uk, so that would be 68 quid for both of characters to be moved, i'l try put up with it in the hope it's fixed i think.

As far as i know the problem with that is i have nothing to enter into the field for my account, there is no password, it is Steam itself that authenticates the process, not a manually entered password.
