Lowsec solo gatecamping with a Raven?

Greetings.

I figured I wanted to try to solo gatecamp in a lowsec system, pref on a Raven. The targets Im hoping to kill would be frigs, dessies and industrials. But Im wondering if this is even possible? Can I tank the sentries in a Raven, lock the target before it warps and then kill it?

If it is possible, could anyone recommend a fit?

You just don't have the lock speed to Solo camp in a Raven. You are not fast enough to get a Web on anything ether so anything you do manage to tackle(Basically Battlecruiser and above) can burn out of point range and escape or keep you tackled long enough for the Guns to chew you.

Is there any other Caldari ship I could do it in? A Drake perhaps?

You'll struggle locking frigs in a raven before they warp.

The weapons the raven is bonused for are terrible for dealing with small targets.

To tank gate guns a raven would need an active tank, you'd be popping back to the station every 5 minutes to resupply cap boosters.

You're best options in my opinion would be a passive tanked onyx or broadsword with a field generator and focused script and a bunch of mods to increase scan resolution.

Raven isn't really a good choice for solo gate camps and killing small stuff. You've got cruise missiles which are just terrible because they do poor damage at really long range, and since you have to tackle targets yourself, you wont even be able to use that range for anything. Or you have torpedoes which are absolutely terrible against small targets you mentioned such as frigates and destroyers. Furthermore, in order to actually have a chance of locking a small target in a Raven, you need a sebo which will gimp your already weak tank.

Honestly, if you really want to go through with this, use a drake. Heavy Missiles will do better damage then torps or cruise against all of the targets you listed. A drake also benefits from faster lock time, align time, better buffer/passive tank, and its significantly cheaper. The cheaper should be real important for you since your probly new to pvp (no experienced pvper would want to solo gatecamp in a Raven) and will loose ships.

Edit: Be careful with smartbombs as killing pods in lowsec, on purpose or by accident, is a real fast way to get -5.

/Honestly though I would not try to Solo Gate Camp Null if you have never done it before. Saddle up with a few other Drake pilots if you want to create a Camp.

Viable Caldari solo camping choices (IMO)
- Tengu (Far and away the best choice)
- Onyx
- Drake
- NH
- Blaster or HAM Ferox (Believe it or not)
- 150km+ Rail Naga
- 150km+ Rail Eagle
- SB Raven/Rokh

FWIW, I've the most experience with the Drake and NH and they both work fine. The Raven is really more of a damage dealer - I use mine for busting gate camps, not engaging in them.

Nano drake and kite. Or nano with HAMS....which with hams prolly gonna need a TP for smaller. Really though small targets are going to get by you unless you're with a group.

It depends on the skills, but max buffer ham drake can gank shield cane while tanking sentry fire. Have tried it a few times and works rather well. If you fit a sebo your tank wont be enough to gank another bc, but you will still be fine with cruisers. Frigates you wont be able to catch unless the other pilot wants to fight you or hangs around the gate unnecessarily.

Use sensor boosted, AB, full lows dmg mods Arty Tornado and feel the power: Mini-Machariel alike Lol

With link, gang boost etc, very sure this one and sniper Oracle will destroy low sec inty travel. Good thing is that now at 130km+ 5 of these will just annihilate any usual bait reccon and just for this I'll buy the Tornado BPO
