Dunno what it's like where you are but I've been revelling in being able to go out wearing no more than 2 layers of clothing recently.

Sorry Mal, but that's pretty weak. Active player numbers being almost the worst they have been in 2 years shouldn't be shrugged off with "Oh, but the weather is nice".

Screenies or it didnt happen

But the cancellation of WoD, the firing of most (it not all) of White Wolf Atlanta (the second time theyve done that when in trouble mind you, Im almost to the point to think they bought them just to use to vent such damages), the public failings in their finances last year, the scattershot focus of the devs, and it all adds up to a scary picture

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Why not? Thats what the devs tried to do during the summer of rage lol

the summer having nice weather, doesn't mean people's accounts become unsubscribed.

quite frankly it doesn't matter how many people log in, if the number of subscribed users goes up.

If you look at the games that went F2P, besides the originator (guild wars) you will see a pattern. STO, SW:TOR, Conan, all were sub games... that did not get the numbers, so they went F2P. Sure you cna play for free but if you want the cool stuff, you gotta pay for it,
.

Sto is a different situation entirely. It was first given a 4 year development time to Perpetual Entertainment, but was then transferred to Cryptic when it became apparent that P.E. had spent 3 years only creating artwork to release to the public. Cryptic was given 14 months to create the game from scratch.

They adapted the engine they had for Champions Online to cut development time, and started working on a game that had Romulans as the main bad guy faction. However 2 months before launch, they were informed that the J.J. movie required the destruction of Romulus, and they had to scrap all of the missions, faction, and end game content they had and start over.

There was good sales numbers at launch, but the lack of content due to all these factors didn't retain many subs, and Atari dropped their backing after a few short months - which is what game production companies do when they are the cause of a screwed up launch. Crytpic had just enough subs to drop their development team to a skeleton crew and opperate the servers for about 2 years until Perfect World Entertainment picked them up.

P.W.E. has a standard F2P model that they require all of their games to use, so Cryptic then spent a year converting STO and CO to the new model....in the end though lock boxes and the dilithium exchange worked to greatly improve cash flow, they were able to hire more developers and release last years Legacy of Romulus expansion which is leaps and bounds better then the original content, and they are currently reworking the stuff that didn't launch the way they wanted it too.

SWTOR has had money and support behind them since day one, and yet no stars, no wars, and sure as heck no war in the stars.... Conan isn't a strong enough I.P. to stand alone in this, or any game market.... As far as Space MMO's go though, I think STO did space battles and space station interiors better then anyone else, and wish that they would copy those two aspects into Eve.

Maybe there is a lot of legacy code in eve online, but I speak from experience when I tell you that developing a brand new engine for 3 years would actually make it crumble and die.

CCP will continue to bring players into the EVE universe as long as they provide servers because they already have a solid foundation of intellectual property and content. The code will always be in flux and need maintenance / upgrades. The best thing CCP can do is continue to support their product with titles like Valkyrie which take the already established universe of eve and bring you a brand new experience with a space shooter.

Dust has also helped to bring a whole new player base into the eve universe and expand beyond the boundaries of PC. Eve is a winner and as long as CCP keeps their servers running, kids will play in the sandbox, legacy code and all.

Every day in every way I improve my skills and get better.

CCP have never released accurate subs data. So active players is all anyone ever gets. Like it or leave it, I don't really give a ****.

Have you even looked at that graph? Current average week 26800 and still trending down. It's not been that bad since mid 2012, and was only slightly worse this time two years ago. If it drops any further we will literally see the lowest numbers in two years. You can disagree all you like but those are hard numbers. If we loose 1000 more in averages we will see the lows not seen since 2011 as the other guy said and active numbers don't usually go up again until much closer to expansion release date so we've probably got more down to go yet.
