Simple suggestion: Make the 'selected object' bracket visible against bright backdrops.

I'm going to assume this is common practice but not talked about much. When you hold alt and select your own ship you get a square box that is used in scanning to accurately line up your scan on celestials in order to find your target. With a normal dark background this is easy to see and use but when you are scanning objects near the sun it is impossible to see; so you are unable to make accurate scans and have to guesstimate where ships are. In a combat situation this is obviously something of a nuisance as it slows you down.

If possible I would like to see this bracket against all backdrops. In the picture I posted you can see that the square ship bracket is impossible to see against the sun while the celestial objects are actually visible agains the sun.

Although its early days, now we have the nice and shiny nebulae in game this could become something of a bigger issue. Regardless anything 'hidden by the sun' is a pain to track down quickly and this would be a nice little change.

I know it sounds like a petty small thing but it would be nice to see this fixed as it gets in the way of fast scanning. Its still a skill based activity to do quickly and this isn't making it 'easy mode' but just letting you get on without wrestling with invisible brackets!
