Every time someone complains about getting scammed, it is always implied that the victim got what they deserved because they were greedy.

This bothers me.

Greed is what makes eve work. It is what inspires people to build corporations and empires and conquer territory.
Sure, sometimes this means going after easy targets. But that is part of the game.

Greed is a good trait to have and it should be encouraged.

Chastise people for not being quick enough to spot a scam.. But don't try to make them feel bad for being greedy.

I don't think too many people complain about greed directly.

It's when someone loses something and then blames the perceived "villain" rather than taking responsibility for their loss. The whines that result from greed are the issue, not the greed itself.

It seems that being personally responsible for decisions and choices is not the in thing at the moment.

True. And there are not a lot things out there in life encouraging people to accept responsibility for their actions.

Anyway, I wouldn't say the majority of people complain about greed, it just always comes up and seems like the easy way to try and hit someone who has been scammed.

Though I suppose it is often hard to reason with someone who continues to whine and wont listen to what is being said..

I think we just use 'greed' as a catch all phrase, just the same as 'griefer' is a catch all phrase.

Not everyone who comes here whines because they had a loss bought about by greed. In many of the cases it seems they didn't know the mechanics, were naive about a scam, did something accidentally and were confused, etc.

There are lots of different reasons that people suffer loss and then feel angry about it. 'Greed' allows the rest of us to make a quick judgement and a short forum post that expresses the view that they should HTFU. It's also useful because it puts the responsibility back on the person that suffered the loss, which is exactly where it should lay when they do something stupid.

In a scam, both parties are being greedy if you boil it right down, but the one that comes and whines about it deserves the scorn they draw.

"Good Greed" attitude in game can easily translate into "Good Greed" attitude in real life, don't complain then if the Banks claim your house cos you're behind on repayments, throw you out onto the street, cos $300 Billion in yearly profits is not enuff for them :|

This is how scams work.

Real life and this game are very different things.
You could also say that suicide ganking people in eve could easily translate to real life and don't complain when you find out you have no clones after the cops kill you for bombing a shopping center.

I am not saying that real life greed is good.
I am saying it is good within the confines of the eve universe.

Okay, Gordon Gecko...greed is good...you've rewritten tens of thousands of years of human history with one stroke. How in the hell could we have gotten it all SO wrong for SO long? Where have you and your genius been all these centuries? Step aside Ghandi. Move over Newton. Back of the class Einstein. Here's ... say, what was your name again?

Greed can make you fall for the scam = loss

Greed can make you post that scam = gain

Working as intended. I fail to see the problem or concern the OP is making. Funny things discussed in GD.
