An Announcement On The Future Of The World Of Darkness Project

The procedural generation tech that Atlanta had was very advanced, I hope we see that used in the future.

I know it may be an unpopular opinion, but I hope we actually see talking in stations now that WoD is canceled. All of the tech for it is there, and exists in the Carbon framework. It would seem like CCP could keep a fraction of the WoD dev team on board and still have the resources to finally implement a complete version of WiS.

Of course I'm not talking about injecting a full character MMO into eve, just station halls, corp meeting rooms, bars, poker rooms perhaps... no actual gameplay, just the "coffee shop" element as CCP calls it. Eve could use that, and it would really boost new player retention, especially if some of the tutorial took place in character, where migrants from other cookie cutter WoW clones would feel more comfortable before jumping in to the thick of Eve itself.

Reduction of staff several years ago finally made it impossible ... sad, I was looking forward some announcement '15 since previous fanfest demo was very cool to look at. I just hope now that you will actually do something out of the remaining guys ... both for them and for the remainting games.

I know that you don't plan à priori to include IP or assets from the dead (ah ah, play of words), but what about the tech ? Do you have Carbon-ish stuff that could be used at a later stage, like Character tech or render / interface improvements ?

Not surprising either given that they were trying for a pay to win system and they wanted it to be permadeath. Paying to unlock **** on a character with real money that dies perminantly when it dies IS a good way to make money short term but I seriously doubt anyone would be doing that long term O.o

Anyone still have a link to that newsletter? I wanna read it again, make sure my recollection was correct on that bit

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Not into WoD myself but the (limited) feedback I got on this announcement could be summarised as :

"Did anyone expect that after 8 years something would emerge from this mess?"

(For the non-WoD peeps that can be summarised as Buffy's so old - no offence intended to WoD players but you know what I mean in terms of timing).

Hope the people directly involved get sorted in new employment soon.

Given that the initial introduction of this IS what basically killed WoD, and cost CCP so much that they had to cut 20% of their corporation's personnel, Its not greatly surprising that theyve backed off their WiS ideas is it?

I'll believe it when either one of them is actually dead.

Did you take a read Chribba's last artice in regards to new characters created in Dust? Pretty much says it all.

Ooh. Link?

Here

I misspoke,, chribba didn't write the article but did provide an analysis to issue of recycling toons

Notice how DUST 514 has less than ten times the players online EVE has

So... 5 million or was that supposed to mean ten percent of EVE or 50,000?

Im assuming the second, not the first

With more than 5.5 Million created characters

Oh wow, the other way. Why are ppl thinking its dying if its got ten times the players as EVE?

Sure, but the opinion the WoD MMO wasn't aimed fair and square at the enormous, but ephemeral, market for all things vampire doesn't impress me.

Why would teenage girls and housefraus be interested in a MMO :p

Especially a non actual Twilight one

ESPECIALLY a MMO where their characters can perminantly die.

I think he meant to say ten time less fewer. Word order — it's a treacherous and mysterious thing. P

Good. Now take the staff that's left and make them fix the user interface. MAKE THEM, you understand what I'm saying?

We know the value in the IP and are going to be reviewing the status of it in the near future. There aren't any plans for it at present.

what happened to White-Wolfs Promise of fixing the IP after the horrible reception of Third Edition where you pretty much Ganked 2nd ed ideals and flipped everything on the Veteran Supporters... then again... Seeing what happens with EVE... I guess shifting everything upside down is CCP's Business model...

Yes, that's the whole point: one tenth the players; ten times more characters than EVE has characters. Hence the investigation into what brings about this insane abundance of characters. It's that vast discrepancy between players and characters — even when compared to “alts online”, aka EVE — that makes the whole thing suspicious.

WoD MMO was aimed at WoD fans and sure, why not, vampire enthusiasts, but vampires weren't particularly cool back in 2008. So no, it wasn't started with Twilight fanbase in mind. I think it was more of a response to VtM: Bloodlines and its cult status as THE vampire game of recent times.

I know one teenager who's deep into WoD and White Wolf.

Hmm, wait, it's 2014, he's turning 33 soon ...

I hope CCP can salvage the most of the talent and the IP, or eldest will blame me for killing it off :(

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

So CCP are responsible for something White Wolf did eight years before they bought the company? Youre talking Revised edition right? Not the 20th anniversary edition in 2011?

Being that the revised edition came out in 1998 and CCP didnt buy them until 2006

I'm going to second the suggestion of porting some of the carbon assets into EVE (mainly clothing). I know it won't all fit, but it'd be nice to see some formal items for avatar portraits. And it'd be a nice compromise and a way to recoup some losses (possibly). If they'd started any work on hunters or technocracy or any of the other high-tech cyberpunk factions of WoD, those assets could probably just be applied directly over into Eve.

Technocracy, Virtual Adepts, Sons of ether, Glass walker items please! Oh and a Grand Klaive, Cause I want my capsuleer looking like he's hi-tech and gonna Gut someone..... Or at least a BSD Tattoo!
